In Remembrance... 9/11

#1

Post by Water Bug »

I've taken Spyderco World Trade Center #1044 out of its box and have it clipped in my RFP as I type this.

I was fortunate to acquire this fine piece, and I make it a point to EDC it at the start of the week of 9/11. I also EDC it for the entire week.

Oh, and by the way, 9/11 is on a Tuesday this year... just like it was in 2001.

This is in remembrance of all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

This is in remembrance of all those who have given their lives since then.

This is in remembrance of the sacrifices made by those who have defended our country... and a trip over to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (formerly known as the National Naval Medical Center), where you can see our military heroes in wheelchairs and wearing prosthetics, will make it clear the sacrifices they have made!

LET US NEVER FORGET!!!

Very well said, Water Bug. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to go out to the families of all our fallen brothers and sisters.

I will always remember this day. Thank goodness the person responsible for devising and planning the attack is now dead.

I will always remember, but consciously avoid extending my outrage to others of middle eastern descent. Folks from the middle east and asia are overwhelmingly good and decent folks.

Fanaticism brings out the worst in all worlds.

9/11 has a very special place in my heart. There is not one day I do not think about what happened on that Tuesday morning. Everyday I pass the Freedom Tower and look up into the sky. It is quite amazing to see the progress at the site. I thank the men and women who have scarified their lives not only on that day, but in the last 11 years fighting for Americas freedom. Speaking of... wow, 11 years. The years are going by faster than we can count. Kids who were just that, kids are now turning into young men and women themselves. Businesses that were near closing because of the physical(and emotional) damage are now flourishing. Thankfully, no one in my family was lost. But it seems like just about everyday I hear of a rescue worker succumbing to the physical toll 9/11 took on their health. (RIP FDNY FF Larry "Sully" Sullivan)

Sadly, I traded my D'Allara(Rescue) years ago when I first got into Spyderco and have never picked up one since. I still regret it. I am always on the lookout for the WTC D'Allara.
I will be edcing my American Flag Pride in the next week to come.

I cannot forget that day. It is one of the worst memories I have from childhood. Around the same time my mother was dying from cancer (so we thought), given less than six months to live. So needless to say I thought the world was going to s**t. But fast forward 11 years, My mother is still alive an kicking having lived through two types of lung cancer, cancer of her heart wall, lymphatic system, and two tumors in her brain. The nation, as well as my mother, was still able to make it through one of the most trying times this country/my family has ever faced. I will never forget the feeling I had around that time period that nothing was ever going to be the same.

I agree mate, for those of us that were old enough to maintain the memories, it will be something we won't forget . I was a freshmen in highschool, and I had just walked into my english class a little earlier than usual. I came in thinking wth happened, because I saw my english teacher crying, while some of the girls were huddled together, everyone looking at the tv. Then the oh xxxx moment.

Thank you for sharing

An indescribably solemn remembrance, this Patriot Day.

I can still remember my stunned silence as I entered the gym I worked at, and the first plane had already hit.

The whole gym had come to a halt, and everyone was stoic in front of the cardio rows where the large suspended HDTVs are hung.
Then the second plane.
I looked at my VFW buddy there, and said 'This is war, bro. This is &*^$ war.'

The losses and the horrors of that day I remember extremely vividly. The incredible acts of bravery. A nation traumatically unified through unspeakable acts of terror.

In the 11 years since, has the expedition of fighting terror globally been enough? 20?
I assume opinions vary widely, but I do know this:
Never Forget.

Never Forget what is at stake, and what world we wish and bestow upon our progeny -- fight on for as long as the threat exists and hold fast. But I do not intend for this to be a political post / thread in the least -- but we Must Lead.

I am on my ninth 3' x 5' flag, displayed in the front of my house, lighted at night and cased when appropriate.

This display has endured every day since Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001.

My VFW Post is active on this solemn anniversary.

God Bless America. God Bless all her partners in the peace loving, free democratic nations of this Earth.
-- God Help those others trying to get there.

God Bless all our sentinels whom through strength and might hold, protect and defend that peace.

Crazy to think that it was 11 years ago, the events of 911 still effect us to this day which really makes feel like it wasn't that long ago. Life is precious...

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about their religion;
respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours.
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.

Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend,
even a stranger, when in a lonely place.
Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living.
If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.

Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools
and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled
with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep
and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

As has been mentioned, you always remember where you were. I wasn't born for Kennedy, but one of these type of events is enough for me. I happened to be taking a shower in my dorm on the University of MD when the news spread, so I watched most of the drama in a towel. It strikes me how many important moments in your life occur in your birthday suit...

We're so hard on ourselves as a nation, always loudly pointing out our own faults. I'm glad that this day has become a day where we all remember the positive, and most importantly, all the people that have fought for the well-being of others, both at home and abroad.
