Ladybug with toothpick and tweezers

#1

Post by spambait11 »

Hi Sal,

To reduce keychain clutter, I'd love to carry around a Ladybug H1 Hawkbill with toothpick and tweezers rather than an SAK MiniChamp as my keychain knife of choice. Hopefully you geniuses at Spyderco can make this happen one day soon. I would even be satisfied if you just made slots in the handle so that I could slide an SAK toothpick and tweezer in. And a slot for a pen would be a bonus!

This is an absolutely serious request!

Thanks for your consideration! :D

I doubt it will ever happen but I'd be all about it. I've even thought about putting a Spyderco blade into a SAK to get the best of both worlds.

I carry a Leatherman Style PS daily with my Spydies. No toothpick but awesome tweezers and I can't live without a tiny set of pliars on me (or a bottle opener!).

This would be really cute! I don't carry a knife on my keychain, but I would put one in each of my various kit bags (e.g., briefcase, field bag, dop kit). It should be a unique color to differentiate it from other LB variants... maybe some fluorescent color...

The normal Ladybug handle is injection molded fiber strengthened thermoplastic. to get a slot like that into the handle, there has to be a very small and long slide into the already pricey mold. I do not think it is technically possible to make those long slides work in the mould. It is perfectly possible on a knife with scales, though.

A while back Spyderco was thinking of making a screwdriver bottle opener type pocket knife, don't know if the idea ever went anywhere.

I think I heard somewhere the SAK-like Spyderco idea is still alive :)

Still alive with a few designs already prototyped.

Hi Spambait,

welcome to the Spyderco forum. We're considering the concept.

I'd love to see you guys take another shot at the multi-tool market. I'd particularly like to see something along the lines of a Leatherman Skeletool...simple, compact, with pliars/knife/screwdrivers/scissors/file.

Nice. I really miss carrying a SAK. No more room with two or three Spydies! Toothpick and tweezers are so useful. The pen would be great, too.

I wonder if I could rig my drop point Jester with slots...?

- best wishes, Jazz.

I'd love to see pics. Also I like the idea of it being small, no-clip, Laybug sized.

Hi Krislacy,

We generally avoid pics of concept models and early prototypes until we're closer to delivery. While we're all friends, it's a public forum and sometimes "non friends" watch. What's that line? Imitation is the sincerest form of theft". ;)

Also, if we show pics too soon, then people call the sales dept for information of which they haven't yet been informed.

I wouldn't mind owning one, especially if it was the H1 salt version. Would make for a great little fishing knife.

WOW! Thanks for the info Sal! I'm always impressed that you guys come up with concepts and designs sometimes years before the market has caught up.
