D2 steel
i have 2 knives that use D2 steel - i love it - it keeps a great edge, is tough as nails - never experienced any brittleness at all. It's not a supersteel as I know it by any means but in my humble opinion and in use it turns out to be a pretty **** fine one. I am new to the forum and relatively new to spydercos - tho the collection is ever-growing. Any reason why spyderco dont use this steel or am i wrong - do they already? what i'm saying is i reckon it would be a nice choice for some of their "tougher", bigger blades - a millie or a manix 2 xl in dlc d2 perhaps? :spyder:

Spyderco has used the powdered form in a couple sprint runs (CPM-D2 Paramilitary and Military both in Foliage green G10) Spyderco has also used CTS-XHP which is said to be a more stainless powdered version of D2 on several sprint runs. (Military, Para 2, Manix 2) I don't know of any Spydercos that used regular D2 however, but if you like D2 you will probably like XHP.

I dig my Manix2 with CTS-XHP. Excellent knife with an excellent steel. Still prefer the CPM-M4 model, but I carry the XHP every day as I found myself getting some rust on the M4 model (just a touch - will probably change back, but I have been a lazy owner and not maintained it was well as I should, or spent long enough time in the woods getting all kinds of mud and crud on it that sped the rust up).

Vinito Lovin the orange and black but just cant find it here. Even the orange g10 / silver millie has not been an option that i could find in the uk over the past year. I really need to try the xhp, but gonna wait and see what else comes out. Esp if you dont have any corrosion issues with it - tho i havent found any with either my d2's either, tho to be fair the Ontario tak 1 is powder coated (favourite almost pointless but fun fixed at the moment) So it looks like a preference thing I guess - Spyderco just doesnt rate it right for their blades. Can i mention benchmade here?! They do a few in D2 and they wear well with minimum care. So i guess Spyderco doesnt have an equivalent regular steel used in a few different blades, just sprint runs in say, XHP? Just find D2 an attractive good edge holder for my usage.
I would take Sleipner over cpm d2 or cts xhp. http://www.bucanada.ca/sleipner_c.htm
