The ramp right by the opening hole to ease getting your thumb in there. I just did mine like that. You didn't?

- best wishes, Jazz.

Since there is no lock on the UK penknife, is it fair to say its not suitable for self-defense?

Wow, this thread is a good 8 months old.

I say it can be used for self defense on the grounds that any knife you have on you can be used for self defense.

Thanks for the reply. I was wondering since the UK penknife has no locking mechanism, it would "fold back" from its extended position if it penetrates an object.

I would think that it might not be too good at stabbing. But slash cuts would be ok...

But don't take my word for it, I'm not a SD guy at all.

While the UKPK wouldn't be my first choice for SD, it would be far from ineffective. As long as you keep your finger in the choil area, the blade can't collapse onto your finger and cause an injury to you.

But as Snoo said, I'm not an SD guy either - I've pulled my knife only once for self defense, years ago, when an aggressive dog attacked my family. I'm glad I had my Spydie.

Hi bdjansen, welcome to the :spyder: forum.
Everyone is very polite and helpful here I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I do.
IMHO the high end UKPKs are near perfect UK EDCs. Our laws suck but it is what it is mate and God bless Spyderco for hooking us up! Be thankful we're not Denmark!

Jazz - the ramp on Leatherneck's orange G10 and on your black one reminds me of the Sage I and Sage II, and is something I wish ALL my knives had. How did you do your own, Dremel? Both knives look just that little bit better for it.

Mr Moe.... very nice indeed. Want to use that company myself and tried to call them with no success though. Did you reach them by phone or e-mail? Also any chance you could pm me with details regarding waiting times and cost when you get a chance please?

And finally DeathBySnooSnoo, I urge you to get the Ti UKPK while you still can, cant recommend it enough, it really is worth it!

SLIPIT DREAMS - Damascus
H1
Wave (is that UK legal?)
Blue G10 (that is!)

any other suggestions folks? :D

I used a large file - the rounded side - then put sandpaper on the file, then finer paper, then polished. All was done under running water so there wasn't any dust, except the polishing.

- best wishes, Jazz.

Thanks Jazz, hadn't thought about running water whilst filing. :)
