If it works well for you I would expect it to be a nice defense option. I would be tempted to commission (or make) a Kydex one as the leather-loop model seems less secure and a bit slower to get out.
Fact is a defense tool is only as good as it's user. If that thing is sharp and you like the balance of it I'm sure it will take care of you. :)
It is a small knife: 10 inches tip to pommel, 4,5 inches blade. Nice grip and with this wrap it is more secure yet.
As I always tell here in forum, here in Brazil we haven't Kydex to custom made and those who work with Kydex here will price it high.
You are absolutely right, defense tools are a matter of taste and you need to find a good tool to feel safe with it. Sharp I can testify it is. The steel looks have no limits to take sharpness.
What I like in this knife is that it is handmade by one of the most important knife makers here and the fact this is one of the 5 that was in hands of our MP to be tested (and approved). This knife I found in a knife shop and was offered "as is" in second hand basis. Was a bargain to have a custom knife by about USD 100. Many friends here in forum when talk with me about SD advise me to carry a fixed blade and I decide to give it a try. I use it as backup on my back and because it is small, it is very comfortable there.
The sheath is impressively tight! It hold the knife in place very well, despite I agree with you that the leather loop is slower than I wish.
Thanks!
