A Plea to Sal: Reverse Combo Edge Delicas & Enduras!

#1

Post by Harry1922 »

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time lurker and Delica fanatic, and just want to know if it has ever been seriously considered to switch up the combo edge akin to Busse's "flying" serrations...?

I would love to have the serrations at the tip and the plain edge by the handle... Seems so much more practical to me - serrations for swiping/slashing and plain edge for fine, controlled work.

I know there were some Police models that way, but why not more?

One of the reasons I love spyderco is that they are a company that is never lacking is options and versions of its knives... So, how about some sprint run reverse combo edge Delicas and Enduras?

Apologies if this has been hashed out before.

Thanks!

Why not buy a fully serrated? Also no production police or other model has been serrated only at the front.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

The idea is to have the plain edge in close by the handle at the base of the blade for carving, etc and the Spyderedge out by the point for general utility cutting. I think it is worth looking into.

My crazy suggestion is to buy a fully serrated knife and just reprofile the bottom to a plain edge :P
But this will take a lot of custom work.

Harry , Willey Knives in Greenwood Delaware can put Spyderco style serrations on a knife for you. Sal has recommended them in the past. Call them 302 349 4070. Its inexpensive to have done.

Actually, they used to make a reversed combo edge Police a few years ago. Pretty scarce, I think it was made specifically for the Japanese market, just like other few Spydies (the Pilica or the "K" model for instance).

Sounds like a good idea. I have a boker with serrations at the tip and I find it very useful. I would also like to see the 1/2 combo edge be modified to a 1/3 combo edge on the bigger knives like the endura.
The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

They did make a combo edge Ti police not reversed edge that I have ever seen or heard of. The Japan market almost doesn't count because I am not even sure Sal knows what variations are out there.

I think the education of switching the order would be an ordeal. The afi's (most) are fans of PE or SE it seems. The mainstream audience prob buys most (not all) the CE's.

The tip for me is about control and light work, the back for white-knuckles cutting. Just me personally at least. There might be a market for it! :)
