Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. Theodore Roosevelt
I am a huge fan of the dodo. I just recently got my orange one. And now news of a CF version? .... the list just keeps growing .... I scratch one off, and add three more.
I think my Howes price was $10 for the preorder, then $175 when they arrive. Certainly not cheap, but a supersteel (20CP, S90V) would help lessen the pain.
When I talked with Eric and Sal at the OKCA, they indicated that they're probably doing a ceramic bearing (Alumina) with the carbon fiber. I think that may account for some of the cost.

Wow, these prices are higher than the pre-order prices for the S90V Para 2. I would assume the steel will be something other than S30V. If it is S30V, this one will be difficult to justify (not that I won't, but these Spydies are getting pricey).
I e-mailed Jim Howe and he was told that it's going to be S30V. A bit disappointed as I like my orange one a whole lot and was looking forward to the carbon fiber Dodo but the price of this one is up there a bit too much for me with that kind of steel.
Doesn't it kinda go against Spydercos tradition of reserving CF for "special" alloys??
I'll be a bit surprised if it does indeed arrive with S30V, esp at this price point. I can't imagine the ceramic lock ball would add that much to the price...?

CF Native, Zowada, Shabaria, Kopa, and Kiwi had VG10. All of the were made in recent years.
CF UK Pen knife had S30V.
None of them had street around $190 so. Still I think that CF Dodo, even with S30V will be sold fast. Put S90V or something similar on Dodo and try to imagine the pain to sharpen them. It is not easy as is. I bought two NIB Orange Dodos from two different sources and both had micro-bevels from factory. Now add S90V to this task.

I think the CF UKPK was a production model, but I don't know how many of if there was more than one run done before it got discontinued. Golden being at capacity can make for some interesting models and run status.

Waiting on a Squeak and Pingo with a Split Spring!
With a price like that, im going to wait and see what time of cf is used, with the same ole blade steel, if its pretty and has some depth id be more likely to buy it then over the odd looking blk g10'ish cf, course its going to look pretty nice with what i guess a grey colored ball bearing in it.

If it's standard Coorstek High Alumina like they use on their fine SM rods, it will be a bright white ball on black scales.
