Sal, the world needs a Junior Wharnie!!

#1

Post by Evil D »

Did a quick little photoshop...if i had to guess, modifying it like this would only lose about 1/4 inch of blade, but i'm sure Sal and the guys could do it in house a little better than this and maybe lose less. It should still come in at least as long as a Delica blade. I'm very tempted to buy a Junior and make this happen on my own, but i think the design of the handle would kick so much butt with a wharnie blade.

I know i know, "buy a Yojimbo 2". Well, there's an obvious difference in handle design here which is what i'm more interested in.

I really like the Junior but the blade is a tad on the boring side.

HUGE fan of wharnies but if logistically it wouldn't sell well I would love to see a slightly larger one (3.5" blade) with a clip or bowie. Call it the "Senior" ;)

I like the original blade shape for some things. I think that knife would be amazing for food prep, but i don't like EDC'ing blades that have the tip that far from the bottom edge, it makes using the tip more tedious because you have to angle the blade downward so much to hit the tip. Imagine trying to use the tip of the Junior to cut open a box, you'd practically have to hold it at 90 degrees to get the tip into the box. I really want a Junior but i know i wouldn't be happy with that blade profile for EDC.

Hi Dan Vigil,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

Hi Evil,

The Junior lends itself to many blade shapes.

Hi, Sal.

That's good news!

A wharnie with a Junior handle would be just fine.

I love wharnies and hope you do more of them. With wider blades, please, not like those skinny things that Case puts out.

I'd rather have a 4" Wharncliffe Sr.

This knife needs to be super-sized.

THIS

We've got a mid-size wharnie with a comp. lock; we've got the Junior for those looking at traditional blade shapes in this excellent handle design; let's see the super-Yojimbo and the 'Senior' in the same package!

4" minimum. Accept no compromises.

Well in order to make the blade that big, the whole knife would have to be redesigned, the handle would need to be bigger. I think for that size we'd be better off with a Superwharnie (next in line in the Superhawk/Superleaf line).

I am a huge Wharncliffe fan, and this idea sounds great. :D My preference would be a larger blade in the 4" range as suggested by Joshua J. I could see this on a few platforms: the Superleaf with comp. lock, the Manix XL with ball bearing lock, or even a Millie-sized folder with a liner lock. Good ideas all around! :spyder:

How about a smaller fixed blade wharnie? Would love the shape of the Junior's handle with it, might be less expensive to make it from from very good material ................ Neat Idea Evil :)

You could get something similar if you straightened out the edge on a Superhawk.

That would be pretty sweet if you dared to send it to Krein for a special touch. I have been tempted to send my spyderhawk in for an FFG treatment.

Already in the works, Delica sized, it's in another thread recently.

I threw around this idea a while back too, before they were discontinued. My thing with the Junior is just that i really like the handle design.

I would be in for one of these, especially if it were in super blue!
