D2 and the Sharpmaker

#1

Post by 808spyder »

Hello everyone, I wanted to know if the sharpmaker by itself is enough for sharpening a knife made of D2 steel? Or is D2 too hard of a steel which will require other means of sharpening? Thanks.

No, the sharpmaker will make good work of the D2. But as with sharpening harder steels like ZDP... it just takes longer.

If you frequently sharpen D2 or harder steels like ZDP you may want to invest in the diamond stones for the sharpmaker. They'll make your work a lot quicker!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.
