I went last year for the first time, on Saturday, and was overwhelmed by all there was to see. This year I joined OKCA and will be there all three days.

Hi AfghanSpyder,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

Yes, we should be in Eugene this year. But we don't bring regular product to show. We only bring protos and concepts to get feedback on, and we bring catalogs.

Sal,

My young son and I both enjoyed your Spyderco table the last two years. It's great you get out to the Oregon Territory to promote Spyderco. :spyder:

Just so the above doesn't confuse anyone, this year the show is on April 14 - 15, 2012. Friday April 13 is members only day.

While we're on this topic, would Spyderco consider coming to any shows in the Midwest at some point? (i.e. Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, etc.). Being from Indiana, it's difficult for me to attend any of the shows on the West Coast. (Although I WILL be going to Golden some day. :) ).

Thanks!

I think the main reason they come to Oregon is its the Largest "State" Knife Show in the USA. 425 Tables - 8' X 30" and 5,000 folks. There are a few National shows that are most likely larger. Oregon is blade country :D

I've heard from several folks there that they think it's the largest custom knife maker show in the US, maybe the world.

You might be right as only a handfull of production knife companies show up like Buck, Spyderco, and Kershaw seconds vendors etc.. It does seem to be 85% custom makers. Custom knife makers like Oregon's local Wayne Goddard (who also designed a Spyderco knife) have tables.

We began attending the show in the early '80's at the suggestion of Al Mar. We've been there every year since. Some years we had displays, Some years we just attended.

A few of us go out to "knife country" from Golden to be part of the show and represent our company.

At this time, we aren't adding shows as our staff and time is limited. We'll be at the Blade Magazine show with a booth. We'll have a table at the USN show. But I think that's about it for public knife shows.

My son Martin and I will have tables. My son will be demonstrating flintknapping Saturday. I'll have a couple of knives that Sypderco has not seen, I call them "fillet and release" and "ghost". I'm making some kiridashi that will be very reasonably priced...Take Care...Ed

Don't miss Martin's demonstration if you're at the OKCA show. I saw it last year and there is a huge difference between reading about something and seeing it in real time while getting answers to your questions.

I can't wait for this show! I've gone the last 3 years and I love it. There is a really good sense of community and there are some really good prizes. Things not to miss, other than Sal's nametag, are Ed and Martin Schempp, the balisong demo, Gabe and Michael Bell, Jose Diaz and Wayne Goddard. It always amazes me how friendly, informative and welcoming the knife community is.

The Oregon show is always well organized and is in a great venue at the fairgrounds. I would second the motion on don't miss Martin Schempp's flint knapp demo. I first saw it probably 10 years ago when he was just a "kid". Also another don't miss is Wayne Goddard's sharpening demo. I have had a table up there for 15 years and back again this year. Look forward again to the social aspects of the show and also will have some knives on the table. Look me up on L9. Phil

This will be my first year going & I can't wait! I'm really looking forward to checking out some of the awesome new Spydie protos, like the Southard flipper, Tuff, new Starmate(yesssss!), & many others! Also looking forward to the chance to meet Sal, Eric, Ed Schempp, etc, just, wow! The hard part will be seeing the new stuff that I won't be able to buy/own/use for a while...

Jose Diaz will not be there due to scheduling conflict with his "day" job.

Wayne Goddard will not be doing his sharpening seminar due to ill health.
