Just like with the Mules, past forum knives are announced on this forum. At that time the timing and procedure to order will be announced. So keep watching the forum.

In the past every detail of the process has been exactly like rolling out a new Mule, but with more pictures. A few things will probably be different this time as I understand that there will be improvements in response to some of the concerns expressed with the process used to buy the 2009 Forum Knife.

If you're thinking NYC, don't count on it.

Have any friends living outside the five boroughs or in NJ? ;)

Isn't there a program where someone can be guaranteed the option to get a forum knife? I'm pretty sure there is and anyone wanting info on this should email Spyderco directly to get accurate info. I believe there is a collector's program with 3 different levels giving people different options or guarantees. Email :spyder: .

Actually, I think Spyderco's policy is to not ship to New York State.

I believe the current policy is not to ship "locking folders" to NYS... I can get all the Mules, and sharpening equipment I want...but I won't expect to have access to the forum knife.

NY is one reason that, if I were a betting man, I'd bet on the 2012 Forum Knife being either a UKPK or a Native V SlipIt.

I'm sure some people wouldn't mind helping out the NY people get one once they are available. If you have a PayPal account I wouldn't mind.

That reminds me of one of the negative parts of the last forum knife. There were several people who posted in a thread that was basically the equivalent of this thread, saying that they wanted to buy one. Months later, when the knives became available and they didn't follow any of the instructions on how to purchase one, they then came back after the knives had sold out and complained loudly and bitterly that they deserved one because they'd posted that they wanted one.

jackknifeh wrote:I feel for you guys. Do you know anyone who could buy the knife for you (you provide the $) and have it shipped to them? Then they could ship it to you. Or does NYC have it' own customs dept. like countries do? That's a joke but I bet your beloved DA would go for it.

Jack
I dont believe anyone is checking the contents, especially since there are online stores that still ship to NY. Knifeworks is one of them. Im not 100% sure on the details, but it seems like the DA is just pressuring people and would hit corps with huge fines if they are caught shipping to NY. I guess some stores are still flying under the radar. A UKPK G10 forum knife would be kinda sweet, especially if they threw on a premium steel that hasnt been done on them before.

Each time I see this thread come up, I think that there will be a clue as to which knife it will be.

I guess the folks at Spyderco know by now that how eager we all are.

In this case I hope that UKPK will be FFG. In the past out of curiosity, I bought FRN UKPK, but sold it right away. I couldn't stand the grind.

+1
Plus unfair to majority.
I strongly believe that most of the spydernuts in NY have their way to buy knives, if not you do not have to be a genius to figure it out.

Yes this^^^screw these stupid knife laws :) plus if I am going to be honest.......I probably won't buy a slipit, they just don't interest me like a locking knife does, in my small mind they are inferior. So if they help out the guys living in the super liberal sections of the world, they will not sell any to the people like me who don't want a slipit.........just sayin, sorry in advance if I stirred anyones hornets nest.

I have thought that a slipit is the fairest knife. People in a state or county or city that has restrictive laws as well as a number of places overseas would then be able to purchase/carry a forum knife.

I think that a Native 5 slipit would be pretty cool, especially if it came in some crazy new steel...

That being said, I have no real issue carrying anything so would be happy with either locking or non locking knife.
On the hunt for...

As much as I would love a Forum Knife - and I'm really looking forward to it - I just don't think I could spend the money on a slipit - unless it was really, really affordable. Don't care what type lock - but a lock. The Spydie folks out there in "No Knife For You" land know how to get the knives if they want'em.

I feel for the people in places where they can't carry a locking knife at all. I'm glad that Spyderco has knives that give them the opportunity to have AND CARRY Spyderco knives. They get all the other high quality features, just no lock. I wouldn't be interested in a slip joint myself unless it is something I really like. Something like the Terzuola in that even though that knife is a slipit I still love the knife. I'm glad I just got one recently since they are discontinued this year. The forum knife was discussed many months ago, maybe two years. One thing discussed was what is a forum knife? What makes it a forum knife and not just another knife in limited quantities and not manufactured again like normal production knives? I don't remember what the answer was so I'll ask it now.

Is there anything different about a forum knife from any other model? The first time I heard of a forum knife I thought it might be a model with features suggested by forum members, then decided upon by Spyderco. Suggestions like blade steel, handle material or color, things like that. Even whether it should be a lock knife and if so which lock. I would love to have a forum knife but I wouldn't get one because it is a forum knife. I'd get one only if I wanted to carry it, not just look at it once in a while.

Not always. Sometimes it is the exact same with the words "forum knife" etched on it. I have never seen the forum knife used as a platform or vehicle to introduce a fancy new steel or new model to the lineup.

I kind of want something more special than an etching though... :D
