The Next Sage...

#1

Post by buferoe »

Hi There,

Just forgot to ask on the Amsterdam meet, due to the fact that there was so much info and nice stuff to look at.
Is there anyone here who has already some info on what the next sage will look like?
And also what kind of lock will be used...

kind regards,

Werner

Have you seen the Sage 4 which came out not to long ago? Or are you speaking of the next Sage 5?

I know this won't be the next sage... but I would kill for a black g-10 sage with a comp lock... or some sort of side lock... or any lock. just black g-10 on a sage please! I want black g-10 on the most ergonomic mid-size knife ever designed.

Can we please have some phenolic handle material on the next Sage? I think spyderco needs more Micarta in its lineup.

I completely agree. I've always been a huge fan of Micarta-handled knives.

+1000.
As utilitarian as black G10 might be I think there is plenty of that in the lineup already.

I have a couple old Micarta knives and they have aged sweetly! I'd buy a Sage with Micarta scales.

Personally, I would love to see something (any Spydie) in Toxic-green linen Micarta. Oh baby, that'd be sweet! :)

That would be cool. I love the look of coffee bag micarta. Would be cool to see on a fixed blade of some sort.
Spyderco's on preorder: Native 5 S110V, Military Cru-wear, Delica 4 Super Blue Sprint.

I really like that coffee bag micarta too, but for me Brown canvas and the classic burgundy are prime choices to me.

No micarta please. If I remember correctly, I think the reason Spyderco stopped using it was because it was prone to shrink and swell, at least that's what I remember reading.

The Sage series is supposed to pay tribute to knifemakers who pioneer locking mechanisms but it might be cool to have an Emerson Wave Sage though.

What other lock types have we not seen yet? That should narrow down what we might see next.

Axis (Jk), although i wish... we haven't seen the BBL much lately... there is the SOG arc lock, the stop lock, anything assisted (do not want or expect), the G-10/ti framelock combo, the slipjoint (hope not), the button lock would be cool!

Spyderco would NAIL the button lock in a sage!

Let's not forget the unique locking mechanism of the original "Paul Knife," designed by Paul W. Poehlmann, and manufactured by Gerber. See the link below for more info:

Assuming Spyderco continues to use the same criteria for selecting locks, it will have to be one that off-patent and attributable to a specific person or persons.
