The last military I got(brown XHP) locks up very quite also. All of my others have that twack that your S90V does.

It is locking up fine, but I do miss the loud twack. I much prefer it over a sticky lock though, as a couple of my Militaries have had.
I wonder if the ball detent is smaller on the newer millies. That could be part of the reason for no loud twack as you put it. Less distance for the lock bar to travel before it hits the blade? or just a weaker made lock bar in general?

My XHP is also quiet, like yours, but these M390s (mine anyway) are even more quiet. No complaints. I won't be spooking my wife or scaring bystanders when I open the knife. :D

Not sure whether the size of the detent has changed - they look the same but I didn't mic 'em up. I think it's just a less aggressive spring. I'll say again, I have no problems with these in terms of safety and reliability. And I say that having had a few linerlocks over the years, including one Military, that just didn't lock up safely.

Thought I'd add my pics to the mix and a quick unboxing video.

And here is a quick link to my blog post about it, 1 or 2 more pics there. And yes that's my dog JJ in the video, hehe. Enjoy.

Mine was here today as well.
Large and light - very good tactile feel in the hand.
Very pleased.

Did you notice that there's a big rat on the birdbath in your vid, BTW?

JNewell wrote:Comment: build quality on the two I can speak to is very, very high, as good or better than any Military I've bought or handled. Here's a difference that I decided to splice onto the end of the video, just for you. ;) This is the quietest Military I own. That seems to be because the locking leaf has less spring tension than my other Militarys (which date from mid/late 90s to current production). I included a comparison of my S90V sprint, which locks up with a very loud thwack, to this M390 DLE, which is positively quite. I would say it is fully safe, strong and reliable, but it is very much more quiet. Look at the last couple of minutes for that comparison. :spyder:
I noticed the same on one of those I received. One is very quiet unless you open it with "gusto" and the other has the more familiar "thwack" solid lock-up sound even when opening with little opening effort. Both were very sharp out-of-the box. Very surprised when a NIB 2009 Forum Native I found also showed up today. It wasn't expected until Friday. I'll try and do pic's tomorrow when I have better light. I'm pretty lousy with a camera. :D

Quick ? About the carbon fiber. Is it just normal carbon fiber that is checkered like g10? If it was not textured how would it look?

The CF has a good look and feel to it. Sort of a fine textured finish. Probably will be a little less rough on pockets that the
G-10. Seems odd not to have skeletonized liners, though this does keep the weight down. I noticed one of these up for sale on another forum. Can't believe the price. Doubt it will sell.

Been fondling mine just now.
One of the neat things that I just noticed is that the tip of my middle finger, right hand, fits perfectly into the concave area of the clip as I'm holding & opening the knife. Very comfortable.

Smooth opener - the 1st Spydie I have owned that I didn't need to tweak the pivot for the best feel.

I too saw that sales post on the other forum ...

Here's mine, right next to its M4 cousin, far right.

My Lefty, Orange, and S90V Millies are packed away somewhere, couldn't find them...

This should suffice for now.

Got mine in today, I noticed the quieter lock up, but still super solid, of the three Militaries I have it is by far the smoothest as well, didn't know a liner lock could be this smooth, no blade play, perfectly centered, looks really good.

Thanks for the pics and videos... The wait is killing me, and I ordered late, so it will be a few more weeks.
