for slashing, I recommend a Yo2 or a Perrin ppt. I have a PPT, and I can safely say, it is one of the MOST AMAZING KNIVES out there

Endura wave is ur best option price wise but IMO the two best tactical folders in the Spyderco lineup are the P'kal and Perrin PPT. Both have a fast deployment, Cpm s30v steel, legal blade length(most states) and have an intimidating blade.

Agree. Very fast deployment also.

+1.

Yo 2, PPT, or waved Endura.

However, any knife will do. You are the issue. Self defense with a blade is usually wishful thinking without at least some sort of training.

Hahaha. Well put. Now if only Spyderco would come out with a sword :)

Back to topic. For (or near) the $100 price cap I would , without question , get the para Military 2. Fantastic knife all the way around. And although I have not held it or used it myself (yet) , the Yojimbo 2 looks to be designed for self-defense if that kind of thing appeals to you. Personally , I like how the Yojimbo 2 looks very much. They both have S30V blades (sweet) and the awesome Compression Lock. They are also both just over a C note.

A waved Endura would be a good tactical choice. e.g. the Bayou Shooters edition:

You said "$100 tops" as a criteria so that pretty much eliminates the Para 2 if you factor in shipping, tax, etc. The Manix 2 can be had for well under $100 and leave you about $20 change.

What Is the thinking behind the "you will just get yourself hurt"? Many people say the same thing about having a gun also. I not trying to start a fire fight, but I have heard this many times & don't see the logic.

Delica + Delica trainer, or Endura + Endura trainer, and practice your deployment and evolutions until you are doing them in your sleep. :spyder: Over $100, but not much.

The logic is taking a semi-deadly encounter and adding a weapon escalates it to a deadly encounter.

I think anyone with a sharp Spydie and the intent to survive is better than not having one. Generally people can't throw or take hits very well.

Hence why the Civilian was developed, the aka "Say hello to my little friend."

Para is under $100 with shipping if he can get one from Cutlery Shoppe. So is the Manix 2 and the Manix XL is very close. Other options are the Yo 2, Endura and Military. All of which can be had for under $100 if not very close if you're patient. Military would have to be used, but all others are under $100 shipped new.

Ok I get what your saying & most people might do that, but if I feel the need to pull mine out it's cause I intend to to use it. I would have already tried to defuse the situation to the best of my ability.

Oh I don't side with those people. If you're in a situation where you need a knife to live it's not a matter of playing out scenarios in your head. Basically any time you're being closed-in on by 2+ people who intend to kill/maim you isn't exactly a Pokemon match.

Well put.

Of course having a knife is better than not, but to borrow a phrase (and twist it horribly), having a knife and thinking it will defend you is like having a piano and thinking you're a musician.

So true. There is *nothing* about edge weapon defense that is intuitive, or that can be free-lanced withut training beforehand...

For a person without any self defense skills with a knife, those reverse S style blades will be good. The Civilian is about $155 and the Matriarch2 will be just above $100.

Any knife can be used as a defensive tool. However, you should be aware of the knife laws relating to ur area.

I would say that you should buy a Spyderco that appeals to you and feels great in ur hand. Spyderco sure does have an excellent range of designs. Some are even designed by noted personalities in the areas of SD.

Two knives I prefer over the rest for personal protection will be the Perrin PPT and ParaMilitary2. I hope to add a third to this list soon.

Just my views.

IMHO if you go + 100 $ u will be better served with more options...

Lethal no. 1 - P' KAL - extremely fast deployment , very powerful thrust

Lethal no. 2 - YOJIMBO 2 - well suited for slashing and stabbing ,used in the designed grip is devastating

There are more designs - CHINOOK ,STREET BEAT or others to come -SZABOFOLDER so you have where to choose from

but the most important thing is the training -learn to know your knife and it will help you someday..... :)

The Ayoob is tops

Interesting that you would factor in the "penetrating tip" Razorsharp because that's one of the big reason's I've chose the C-60 Ayoob model for my EDC & Self Defense Spyder of choice. Not only does the Ayoob have a very wicked tip it has an ergonomic blade design that can slash, rip and cut better that most of the tactical Spyders I've ever owned.

With the test that Doc Snubnose did with the Spyderedged version of the C-60 really impressed me because the test revealed that the C-60 Ayoob is just as good in both edge variants. Hey don't get me wrong I love all of the Calypso designs and the original C-54 especially is one of my all time top 10 Spyders ever. But personally I prefer The AYOOB. But I do want to see the C54 return as well.
Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!
