#1

Post by spydergeorg »

Hello Spy fans and Spyderco crew!

Do we know about when the standard, plain edge, satin finish para will be available again on the streets?

Thanks!

Always on eBay. Check out poorfish, supremesolution, caledon2, or unitedoutdoors. I trust all of those eBay sellers and I am sure at least one of them have a "standard" PM2

I don't fully understand. Did Spyderco stop making the standard versions of the Para Military 2 ? Or are you just having a hard time finding them ?

On the Spyderco site it seems out of stock. I would call the Spyderco Factory Outlet and get word from them. Perhaps they are just between runs.

Typically the forum is great for into but slow for official word. Those folks work when we are posting :) .

Also, you might find one here by calling vendors:

I was at SFO last week. They are just slammed trying to churn out all the models produced in Golden. There's so much demand that it's been hard for them to fill all the orders. As a result, not many online vendors have anymore inventory. The normal Para 2 isn't going anywhere as of last week at least. I can think of worse problems to have if I was a manufacturer. I would love to see the factory in Golden grow and expand. Fingers crossed.

+1 to all these. There may be a few others. I have used all these except supreme solution. They tend to have the cheapest prices, quick shipping and no issues. All my knives from them have been pretty much perfect.

I have seen the standard pm2 somewhere lately. I will report back later if I find a good price

I'm amazed at how hard this knife is still selling, and we're over a year after its release. It's well earned though.

I would love to know exactly how many are produced per batch that are selling out so fast.

I would like to know that also. I have been to Golden several times and I can tell you the Spyderco building is small. I don't know how they do what they have already done from a production stand point. I have it in my head that if they ran tours through the building, I would be expecting a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory experience. I bet they have thousands of little people working on tiny machines. Maybe Sal is Santa and has a bunch of elfs working in that building.

Spyderco seems to run production just under demand, so many times you are going to find shortages and backorder situations. I don't know if this is deliberate to entice people or maybe create the illusion of an item selling like hotcakes, but it seems to happen frequently enough that it makes one wonder.

Between the smaller batch production and number of employees I figure they just er on the side of being busy vs extravagantly staffed. It keeps them with reliable jobs during the slow times too. Never heard official numbers but I bet the Spydie-crew would be hard pressed to crowd a decent sized Starbucks.

Even the demanded ones are available but not often where you want or the price you do. Prob a factor of smaller popular entities going for variety opposed to stocking 50 of a few SKU numbers.

Maybe its time Spyderco upsized their operation and hired more staff? From what I hear, there are still plenty of people looking for work...

Some notable the 'big' knife companies seem to produce below demand, try finding a small sebbie or a regular strider pt collecting dust on an e-shelf. Maybe thats a business tactic, anyone?
