Military?
Military?
I have come to a point where I think I need to pick one of these up(still debating). I have plenty of larger mid size spydies (PM2, Manix 2, GB, endura) and just picked up a sage 3 for a smaller mid size edc. I was thinking of picking up an M4 manix 2 because i really like the platform and M4, but it probably makes sense to get a Military since it is another spydie classic. Any military fans out there care to chime in and talk me into it? of course, another option would be the new Manix 2 XL. it seems to me that the Military is a little bigger than the M2 XL. I would mainly carry the knife for fishing, hiking, camping. For use around the house, it would be food prep.
Thanks for the input! :D

Oddly, I ordered a Para 2 yesterday and canceled the order. I ordered a Military instead as I simply wanted a bigger knife. I wouldn't be carrying it every day, but I have more than enough EDC's already.
I'm not trying to talk you into it, but if you want a large folder it would be hard to beat for anywhere near the price.

Besides the serrated Cricket, the Military is the very best Spydie EVER made
Especially in full SpyderEdge. Just a SHAME they don't make them anymore
A pity they are not all that NKP friendly
I so wish Spyderco would made a REAL Para Military; just a smaller version of the Milie: same lock, same platform, same full SpyderEdge. Just smaller.
Just like like the Rescue and the Rescue Jr.

I don't have any non-civilian or tactical requirements for a knife. However I have lots of uses for a large folder like the Military.
Since a large folder will do most things a medium fixed blade will do as well and almost everything a small folder will do I use it when I'm traveling, camping, and fishing. Even if I have a fixed blade with my other gear, I won't go get it because the large folder will get the job done. It's a very flexible outdoor tool.
For chores around the house I usually use a razel but a big folder is good working out in the yard or garage.
If I could only have a single knife, I think a large folder would be my choice.

Good grief man, do you really not have a Military!!!
:p
Get one. You'll love it, and its a must have IMO.
No knife on the market can compete with its size/weight ratio.
4" FFG blade with plenty of distal taper for super slicing, a great handle that offers many grip options, at only 4.25oz(4oz on CF). Whats not to love!

The PM2's back liner is ok.. It's not my favorite, though. If it's a liner lock, give me the Millies..any day.
I walk away slow tonight,
and cut through the air
with a curse, like a knife.

Bal, not too sure that enough improvements can be made to justify the sequel. I always prefer the tip up carry so that could be an upgrade. I really do agree with your statement, "when I have a Millie at my side" I can handle any situation. Thats why its always in my EDC bag. I always rotate various blades in and out of left and right pockets, but the Millie stays beside the multitool in my bag.BAL wrote:I can't imagine life without a Spyderco Military. My favorite. I love all of them, but pound for pound I feel like I can handle any situation (good or bad) when I have a Millie at my side. The knife is a beast though.
I am hoping for a Millie 2 sometime. Not sure when It will appear.

The Military would be the one to get, it will handle just about anything that could be called normal use.
It's a good sized knife, but it carries very well and small for how large it really is.
That 4" blade has a lot of belly, that and the distal taper makes for an excellent cutter on a varity of materials.

I agree with that! Amazing knife!Ankerson wrote:The Military would be the one to get, it will handle just about anything that could be called normal use.

At first I thought it might be too big, now its been my edc for almost a year! It does everything a smaller knife will do, it's super ergonomical!
Try go for cpm-m4 blade or s90v
I've been begging for a carbon fibre frame lock, m4 Millie in LEFT hand carry! Right handlers are spoilt! Take advantage of military variety!
A Military is a nearly constant companion for me. I have lots of good knives, but I carry a Military. I have an old 440V PE and a CPM-M4 G10/Ti PE and they both get carried and used. Every once in a while (maybe twice a month) I'll carry a Police 3, Lil' Temperance or Para 2. All of those are good knives, but they just don't work as well on average for my cutting needs.
As others have said, the Military is a great conglomeration of a long blade that's ground thin, has lots of belly, has a "generic" handle that is still secure, is lightweight and rides thin in your pocket. It's near perfect, but I still await the Military 2. :)

42 Spyderco fixed blades and counting...
Thank you so much for the feedback everyone. i definitely am going to make my next spydie a millie. now i just have to come up with the funds! having our first baby due this spring is not helping my newly contacted spydie virus!

My Millie arrived about an hour ago and I adore it straight out of the box. It's a perfect fit for my big hands, absolutely buttery smooth action and looks cool as ****. So much to love about this knife and makes me glad I couldn't get the Para2 here in Oz and decided to get the Military instead. I'll definitely be looking for at least one more.

I think I'll carry my basic black/satin millie today. It cuts real well. :DBearcat1 wrote:The military or the PM2 in a super steel is the way to go. :spyder:
