Orange D-fly? Color to tenacious line?
Just sitting here in my computer chair as usual, thinking about knives. (also as usual :p ) Well orange happens to be one of my favorite colors and I think it looks great on knives and It lead me to think of maybe an orange dragonfly! Now im not sure if this has been brought up or not but I think it sounds like a cool idea. Bring some more color to a great knife, either FRN or g10, I would get either to be honest.
Now, since we are on the topic of color, I was also thinking of bringing some color to the more, Introductory knives such as the tenacious and/or even the Byrd knives! What do you guys and gals think? I think it would bring more people to see What Spyderco has to offer. You gotta get them hooked before they're willing to spend good money on the a product, and what better to do that then spyderco's ultra high-value knives? :D
I would love to hear some input.

it all started november 2010.. now Im up to 16:spyder:'s and 2 BYRD's and still, theres many more to come. thanks sal :p:D HUGE thanks to my dad for my newly accuired Orange manix 2!:D
I think if every model started getting coloured handles it would lessen the appeal of them to some degree. Also, from numerous comments on this forum, it seems that most folks who start with something like a Tenacious tend to only get one, but move on to the more specialized/'up market' models, which is where the colours and sprint runs come in. Certainly my experience.

+1, i am an example of what you just explained. I picked up a tenacious which is what got me into spyderco, then i have moved into looking into the higher priced spydies and not really looking back.Nighthawk wrote:I think if every model started getting coloured handles it would lessen the appeal of them to some degree. I think i will by the ambitious and persistence to just complete the "tenacious" style line up, but as for sprint runs and colors, it should stick where its at due to the appeal.

Good idea. The tenacious would look amazing with orange g10. I would buy it.
I can see why the byrd knives do not come in color and that is because it would take away from the real Spydercos. I think there should be more then one color then black, however, maybe blue.
Also there should be a red option for knives.

Sal said a couple years ago that the makers were inconsistent in their color batch to batch. That is apparently why Byrds have only been black.zunedog31 wrote:Good idea. The tenacious would look amazing with orange g10. I would buy it.

And red is reserved for trainers.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Seems like the D'Fly is due some color treatment, as the Ladybug, Delica, and Endura are all available in a multitude of colors, but the D'Fly got left out. That's three out of four of the Japan-made-FRN-value-folders that have an orange color option (among other colors). Come on D'fly color options!
As for color options on the China value line, at least there are some blue G-10 distributor exclusives coming out, as well as a green Tenacious. See them here: http://www.spyderco.com/exclusives/
I also seem to recall Sal saying something about trying out a Carpenter steel on the Tenacious line, though I might be misremembering...
