Makes sense to me. So, from now on I just have to charge 5-10% more for my services to fuel my habits.

I believe this is happening almost every years for the last few years.
There is inflation out there :(
This is one more reason to buy more knives in December

Well, inflation and other costs (transport, fuel) increase each year. So will the cost of most products. :)

Haven't heard anything about a price increase. Would not be surprised either way. Certainly possible, given that most everything goes up in price. Still don't recall Spyderco ever doing an across the board increase.

I would have thought that the prices would go down for non-US customers because of the recent drop in the value of the dollar? Or has the Euro been hit so hard that it's falling faster than the US dollar?

Crazy world we live in, isn't it.

I echo what Jay-Ev said and I'm not happy with the "traditional" price increases during the last years. Can only speak for me: 5-10 % more personal income per year is wishful thinking.

On the other hand: fuel, costs for energy, food and so on, are going up, why not essentials, like Spydies.

It's more likely that your dealer is gonna take that extra percentage off the top, than it is Spyderco is going to raise their MSRP. It's a matter of who to point the finger at.

A cheaper US dollar compared to the Euro would make US goods cheaper to export and lower the price in Europe. The dollar has strengthened against the euro during 2011 and so US goods are more expensive in Europe and European goods less expensive in the US.

Even though Spyderco has mfg partners all over the world these are generally fixed contract denominated in dollars.

Crazy indeed. Don't buy the hype about the faltering dollar; it's BS spread by gold salesmen. In 2008 before the liquidity crisis the US had the 7th lowest bond yields, now the US is third with only Singapore and Switzerland viewed by investors as better risks.

I thought that msrp is changed with costs mainly. That's why some Spydies like from Seki got more expensive as the dollar/yen gap widened. That and of course more exotic materials being used.

My sources tell me there will be price increases on some items and many items will stay the same. That seems to be the Spyderco way--not an across the board increase on everything.

Sounds like a good reason to buy more Spydies now!!!!!

I'd say that we have already been seeing the increases in price. There have been quite a few new knives in 2011 and definitely in the 2012 catalog that are above what a lot were expecting.

Euro prices for Spydies have been ridiculously high anyways :-/ I mean come on, Böker's list price for the Delica 4 FFG FRN is EUR 94,95! I know there's taxes and customs and stuff to take into account but this still strikes me as somewhat steep.

But I think the further price increase might be indeed related to the drop of the Euro/Dollar exchange rate. Right now 1 EUR "only" buys you $1.33. A couple of months back we you still got a whopping $1.45 for 1 EUR. That's nearly a 10% difference. European dealers have to compensate for that.
She: Did you say pink :spyder: sprint run?! - He: Yeah. - She: Wow, wouldn't this go great with my purple Delica?! - He: ? - :D

:spyder: Delica 4 FFG purple ::: Dragonfly Salt Yellow SE ::: Ladybug Foliage Green PE ::: UK Penknife Safety Orange G-10 ::: Byrd Robin G-10 PE ::: Delica 4 FFG pink - modded to non-locking ::: Squeak ::: Grasshopper ::: Kiwi - got snagged by the husband ::: Endura 4 FFG Orange ::: Delica ZDP-189 ::: Centofante 4 ::: Byrd Tern ::: Manix 2 Blue Lightweight :spyder:

Spyderco is a great company who cares about it's cusomers. I expect they will discount every product by 25% across the board all over the world as a way of protesting inflation. If they do that, it will mean a sales increase that should make Ripley's record books. You better get your Spyderco's fast though because they won't be here next year. :( :D

Most products go up because of inflation. I don't know why not knowing much about economics. I asked my boss for a pay raise based on the cost of liquour increase one year. He said no because if I drank any more i'd surely loose my job. :D
