Any chance that spyderco will come out with a karambit folder any time soon?? i love the shape of the original spyderco karambit....wish there is a sturdier version of the knife.

i would say theres no chance. The last karambit had poor sales. This style of knife doesnt have a range of users like a 'regular' shaped defence or utility folder

I've learned never to rule out anything with Spyderco, but I'd put this in the "extremely unlikely" category for the reason razorsharp mentioned.

I must confess that, as a result of recent requests from forumites, I have begun to work on a design. Certainly nothing will happen in the near future, but I'm hoping to have the design finished with a concept model by spring.

You can count me in on getting the knife.

Take your time with the design because I'm sure it'll be great.

Sal,
Like I said I've got a C84 Karambit :spyder: , but its more of a collectors knife.
I could & would use a newer design Karmabit (EDC rotation and such).
So I'll ask you to please make another folding Karambit design.

Thanks,

As a side-note Sal I think someone like Mike Janich would do a great job marketing how this can be used as a weapon-retention tool. It's great for that and there are far more LEO's and troops with that concern I'm guessing than those looking for a tactical side-arm. Plus it's more PC and the methodology seems easier to implement (and nobody twirls it into their forearm :p ).

The FMA practitioners and those looking for a "cool" knife are going to buy it regardless. It's the common Joe and Jane who wouldn't consider it. Same reason the Tactical Tomahawk is a pretty recent trend and a terrific tool for our service folks.

Bless you Sal! :)

I use this opportunity to ask:

Any chance for a fixed blade model? Or a Byrd fixed blade model?

Fantastic news! I was looking for a new spyderco karambit (C84) in Europe and found non. I hope this will not be a sprint run, because maybe i will have some troubles to get one over here in Belgium.

Sal you really made me curious about this knife!

Hi Adriaan,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

New models are not scheduled as sprints. If sales are poor, we may not make more than one run. We'll have to see if we can create an effective design and there is sufficient demand to keep the model around for a while. Karambits are not a big niche market.

I didn't know that about new models...

Thanks for your answer. I appreciate it.
