Stopped by Spyderco today
I am from Illinois, but flew into Denver to see the Bears/Broncos game this weekend. My wonderful sister bought me box tickets for my birthday. Not only that, but I am going snow skiing at Vail as well.
I had this trip planned for a while, so I emailed Kristi Hunter and told her that I was coming out. I am a LEO in Illinois and I have swapped numerous emails with Kristi over the years as I buy knives for me and my fellow LEO's at my dept.
I pulled into the driveway (820 Spyderco Way) at 1130 and the first thing that I noticed was a gigantic American Flag waving proudly in front of the building. This was a massvie flag and it was beautiful. Just look at the shadow it casts on the building just to give you an idea. The building also is very nice and when I walked in, I was greeted by a smiling face (I'm bad with names) that warmly welcomed me to Spyderco. The place was decorated with Chrismas decorations and they had several Christmas cards on display. (Im so glad they celebrate Christmas and don't apologize for it).
Kristi was on the phone (prolly with one of you taking an order) and I looked around their outlet store while I waited. Everyone working in the outlet store was so friendly. Several people asked how they could help, one person even came up and offered to sharpen my Spyderco for me. Sadly I didn't have a knife on me because I worry about the TSA and the random bag checks for checked bags. All the models were out in cases and displayed. I must add that the orange G10 really stood out (I love that color). I drooled some more and then checked out the Embassy and the Citadel models. I am impressed with both.
Kristi came down a short time later. She was very polite and gave me the royal treatment. We talked for probably 10-15min and I was very impressed with her and the staff that was with her. These are very good people and very friendly! Kristi thanked me for my service and I gave her my dept's challenge coin and we parted ways a short time later.
If any of you have a chance to check out Spyderco's headquarters, I suggest doing so. I was welcomed with open arms and everyone there seemed to really enjoy what they do. The atmosphere was just so friendly. Kristi talked about the forum and how we are very passionate with kind hearts. She said that the people in the knife community are some of the kindest people she has ever met.
Thanks again Kristi, I look forward to spending more money at Spyderco through you. You are a very kind person and I appreciate the tools your company manufactors for LEO's like me.

Thank You for the thread here and extolling the overflowing of virtuous, knowledged and the intensely devoted staff there, whom are just plain respectfully helpful and more than happy to assist and spend time with the visitor, as I have as well been treated very similarly each and every time I'm out at SFO.

I'm spoiled that way; as I live within a 15 min. drive from SW Denver to Golden, but every interaction is ALWAYS a very special experience -- I HIGHLY recommend making the 'pilgrimage' out to SFO for any and all here if personally do-able.
No better investment of time, if one has the time to visit and just take everything in, including talks / exchanges with the Great Staff there, it is a unique and special experience not soon forgotten. :)
Great OP -- couldn't have said it much better than covered there. Enjoy the Slopes at Vail, and here's wishing you can savor each moment here in the Mile- High Region and the Rockies west of the Front Range.

I am sure he is talking about how businesses now a day can't celebrate ANY holiday without people getting offended because that individual doesn't celebrate it so they feel that no one else should either. Kind of like how when I grew up everyone said Merry Christmas but now we are all forced to say Happy Holidays so people don't get offended. Same thing with celebrating things in schools.-F1 wrote:As opposed to celebrating Christmas and apologizing for it?
So more power to Spyderco for celebrating how they wish.

I have an old buddy that lives in Golden, he's a small-time private contractor, that I've flown out to work with a couple times. Got to see The Allman Brothers at Red Rocks last time I was out !!!!!
If I ever make it out there again, rest assured, I WILL drag his butt, kicking and screaming, out to "some stupid pocket-knife factory" !!! (either that, or I'll just walk over,by myself) :D
