How crazy did you go?

I don't know if something like that was ever brought up, but would love to see how bad do I have it comparing to others. My craziest purchase so far, was the Kris, that I bought for $300. I wanted this knife for a very long time, and finally could not resist it any more. (I did buy one more a bit later for a way better deal from a buddy of mine).
So, who spent the most on one knife that they were anxious to have for a while. Let's say a holy grail?

Not that it is my "holy grail", but I have been wanting a G10 Endura for quite some time. I was tired of watching eBay and every so often when I saw one in the forums, it wasn't the best time for me to buy one, so I bought one on ebay last night. Probably more than it is worth, but at least I will have it now. :D

I'm not sure that I've ever seen my "holy grail" knife. Before I spend a lot of money on a single knife, I would have to be able to justify the purchase. In other words, aesthetics aside, what will this knife do that one I already own can't do?

I have a few Spydercos, but also some other brands and generally try to purchase knives that are not all that similar to what I already own. The more knives you own, the more difficult that becomes.

Also, the more I've learned, the more expensive my purchases have become. Better steels, better handle materials, better construction, etc, all drive up the price but not necessarily the usability.

But that's just me. If a knife really appeals to you and you can afford it, what difference does it make what you spend?

I bought two Yojimbo's on closeout for $68 a piece.

The crazy part is I sold them.

The craziest I've gone for a Spydeco was 80$ pre-shipping for a burgundy micarta jester. It's not my most expensive knife purchase, but it's my worst value, I just had to have it though, since it's the knife that got me interested in Spyderco.

Craziest on a Spyderco? $275 for a Starmate, but I don't see it as that crazy since it was a good deal IMO, sold it for $350 once I decided I would never use it.

Craziest on another knife? I'll let you know, I don't think I've hit my ceiling yet :D .

Ditto.

The other one I went a little crazy on is my Busse ASH-1, not nearly as nice as that, but more practical for me. I don't thin I went too crazy since I got it as partial trade for another knife, but extra money from the sale probably would have been a better plan, lol. I'm not giving that thing up if I don't have to though. It's crazy nice.

The most I've ever spent on a Spydie was $250 each for a couple long discontinued models. I've gotten some really great deals on a few grails, so I'm not complaining.

That is nuts. Sometimes I look at my meager collection and think, "****, I could have skipped a couple of these and bought another J frame..." But, then again, you can't cut things with a revolver, and S&Ws aren't what they used to be... But I digress.

I was about to pull the trigger on an Ebay Yojimbo, and that very day I heard about the sequel, so I scratched my plans and bought a Sage 1. I'm stupid exited about the Yo 2 though.

The G10 Dragonfly is something I've had my eye on but have a hard time justifying, same goes for the CF Cricket. I want both, badly, but I just hate spending the cash on such a diminutive piece. Seems silly, but it's just the way I think. I know they are both exceptional knives.

I'm always on the lookout for used knives. Allows me to get what I want without breaking the bank too often.

Maybe, maybe not.
My truck is worth 1/4 of what I paid for it in 95, my knifes are worth more than I paid.
Food for thought........ :)

How crazy did I go (on a Spyderco purchase)? Hmmm. Well, "crazy" is a matter of opinion. I think I'm definately past the "crazy" part. I think "criminally-insane" may be a more fitting description at this point. (I jest slightly).

Back to the point: I once spent about $84 dollars on a Pink FRN Cricket SE on E-bay because I "just had to have it" and I knew it was becoming more difficult to find. Never did regret that decision. I love that knife. Presently, I am seeing black FRN Crickets going for $100 or better. Nuts. Just plain nuts.

Yep, and here is the proof of that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but original price on Kris was about $160. This just came out:
