Spyderco uses EDM to make Native 5?

#1

Post by Lagrangian »

According to nemoknifereviews, Spyderco uses EDM (electrical discharge machining) to make some of the parts of the Native 5.

Can anyone confirm or deny?

Sincerely,

P.S. If you're not familiar with EDM, nemo knives has a link to this Youtube about it:

I wouldn't be surprised. I believe they do. Wire EDMing is a lot more precise over water jets or laser cutting. That, and if done in a large production environment, it doesn't add a lot of cost despite the $500K price tag. Only real draw back is that it's a little slow in terms of cutting speed.

My friend's dad owns a machine shop that specializes in EDMing. They do other things, but they own five or six EDMs.
