We have a couple of Caly's in the works. A "3" with Damascus and a bolster, and a "3.5" with CF & ZDP.

Id say as long as there are enough of you that feel that way to make it worth spyderco's while, then yes it is, no one can say otherwise.

More on the Caly 3.5

We've got a Caly3.5 model in-the-works. Blade is laminated ZDP/420 with Carbon fiber scales, like the Caly3. Some of us just like a longer blade :cool: . Should be out early next year.

Sal can you guys laminatE it with a different steel besides 420j2? I love the idea of this knife but that steel is so soft it instantly scratches. Could vg-10 be used to sandwich the zdp?

isnt the vg10 damascus just a thin slice? I would really love it if someone figured out how to make a semi-decent pattern with it... Id call the current vg10 damascus pattern "white noise"

I've been eyeing the caly 3 but if it gets made in cf and zdp I'm in for sure. I know its old news but I didn't see it. Definitely would be in for a lock back manix. I like my combo edge but a pe would be better.

I think the only other clad steel that I've seen with ZDP-189 was ATS-34. How about that?

I believe I read that the only reason they use a laminate zdp steel is because the factory that makes that knife can't handle straight zdp. Maybe if the factory has had some upgrades they would be able to pop out some carbon fiber pure zdp caly 3.5 knives?

I do agree that the 420J2 laminate scratches up fast. I still use mine, but it looks nasty fast if you dont polish it once in a while.

I think my first choices would be:
1. Damascus blade
2. straight zdp 189
3. laminate with ats 34 if its an option
4. straight vg-10
5. any other laminate.

The Cruware Mule is getting ready to be released again. CATRA tests were quite acceptable, especially for an ingot steel. The Elmax Mule teams are on the shelf for the next release. Then ???
