Along with the Manix2 it's hard to argue against it being one of the best production knives available today at any price let alone it's retail sticker.
Would Spyderco be open to putting a limited production together for the Para2 in what the AFI's would deem an "exotic" steel but would remain in the lineup for say, a year? The Japanese Spyderco knives are terrific because you can get almost each one in H1, VG10, or ZDP-189. Better yet, FRN to keep the costs down a bit.
I think there is a market for a slightly more upscale Para2 that doesn't have the Sprint aura about it. While fun for the people who get them it certainly is a rat race with people pre-ordering knives they haven't even seen yet. The rest are bought up quick at a premium and savored or put on eBay for a speculative game of knifesale Vegas. :p
Request for an exotic normal production Para2
Interesting idea, though FRN would significantly jack the price up rather than reduce it (mold costs), especially if the production quantity were low-ish. Presumably works better with a US-produced steel...the two Carpenter suggestions above would be great, though I wonder if a greater differentiation from S30V would be better for sales? The 3V idea is very interesting, and Spyderco seems to be willing to use non-stainless steels in folders, which is great. :spyder:
I'd love to see a regular production Para 2 in Elmax and navy blue G-10. I could live with Peel-ply CF, though

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.
I love my ~$100 Para 2, but i would still love to have a regular production snob steel counterpart. The reason is that i never seem to have the knife cash when the sprints are available, and i just can't afford secondary market prices. I think a higher price is reasonable, and i would pay it, just to have it available when i can afford it.
If somehow the Gods that be put the S90V version in regular production (just the steel with G10 would be awesome), then the only loss in sales i could think of is that i might not ever buy another Spydie again

I think the "killer V" steels would be tough to execute on a production basis. They also might add enough msrp to disuade the loyal para2-Golden-loving consumer base.
I'd like to see a $95ish and $129-149ish street price. The amount of people who shell out over $150 for a production piece are in a small bracket. My speculation at least. Really for variation more than the necessity. Digicamo and blackout modeks arent my fave type of variation.

My vote would be for CPM-3V!.. or some more Cpm-M4. Love the idea of Dark grey G-10.hunterseeker5 wrote:OH 3V I had forgotten about that steel. I'd adore a coated blade in 3V on a para2. Why this steel doesn't get more love is beyond me.
Just saw Spyderco is releasing a Brown G10 S35V PM2 in spring 2012. Do not now if it will be a sprint, but I hope so
Looking forward to it!

It isn't, from the consumer's perspective, or at least not much, but it finishes better and faster with lower production costs, if I read between the lines in the Crucible datasheet, and that is why S35VN is likely to displace S30V.Evil D wrote:Well if S35V is really superior to S30V, i would imagine that would eventually phase out S30V.
I think the 3V idea is neat. :spyder:

I love the Para 2. Its my favorite "all-rounder" from Spyderco. I own every variant produced so far and have pre-orders in for those that are upcoming.
I also like the sprint run thing they've got going. I don't know if the masses would go for a super steel Para when they can get a decent S30V model at a reasonable price. The "casual" knife user doesn't really care, i think.
In terms of the next sprint, I'd like to see a totally stupid ridiculous steel that we've never seen before. Something like CPM Rex 121. Basically something totally off the wall.

I would pre-order a Para2 right now in dark olive drab G10 scales with a black DLC hardware and blade. That would be a great combination as seen here in a BM design.OldSarSwmr wrote:I would love to see an ELMAX Para2 but I would settle for a black DLC blade in dark Olive Drab scales!
Please and thank you.
So far I've had no real interest in the Para 2, and at this stage I have no intention of buying one.
However That would quickly change if we ever see a Ti Integral Compression lock (ala ATR) Para 2 with something other than S30V (an RIL would be going backwards IMO). Also hopefully one day we'll see an SE Para 2!

S30V is fine in the standard Para 2, it makes a very nice user steel and with Spyderco's HT it's works great. :spyder:
If Spyderco makes a change from S30V I would NOT use S35VN, instead I would use ELMAX across the board.
Or if they had to stick with a US steel and change I would use CPM-154. :)
Well that is my opinion....
Now to go get my cold coffee. :D

3V would be great too!
I am under the impression the military platform is a harsh environment/ hard use kind of knife. Possibly in contact with some tough materials. In that case there should be some tough steel in the P2. A limited production I'm guessing would help on the cost of the knife which would be nice. If it is stainless then Elmax, CPM154, or M390/ 204P. Non-stainless 3v or M4.
