It's possible that by now the knife has been replaced or something has occurred to make the incident acceptable to the people involved. I hope so and also I would think so. Two things should have happened by now. The borrower should have paid for the knife in some manner or at least come to some aggreement with the loaner. That's the main thing. Also, the loaner should know that he absolutely made a mistake loaning the knife to this person. I assume it was loaned in good faith to someone who had NO IDEA how to use a knife or worse, didn't care. You don't loan a car to someone who doesn't know how to drive. It's a lesson we all can learn. I had a friend knew this lesson when I was about 22 years old. I asked to borrow his car to go on a date because mine was in the shop. He said no and he explained why. If I got into a wreck I couldn't go out the next day and buy hime a new car. I couldn't even pay for the repair if the insurance didn't cover it. Then he would be out his vehicle for at least a few days, probably longer. If I had been a millionaire who's car wouldn't start he would have loaned his to me because I'd have written a check for another car the next day if something happened to his. But, that wasn't the case. He knew I couldn't come close to anything like that. So, even though the borrower in this case should make good for the knife there is a lesson for us all. If I loan something to someone it may not go the exact way I hope so I need to weigh the possible results.
I just hope this issue has been resolved to everyone's satisfaction. Any emotional harm is hard to put a value on or make right.

PS edit: We only know one side of the story. I'd really like to know how the knife got into that condition. It's none of my business. I'm just nosey. :D

Cant agree with all your comments more!! I was going to do a multi quote thread, but there would have been too many, LOL :o .
There has been and probably will be no reimbursement.
I dont think my coworker told his son how much the knife cost or exactly how great of a knife it was other than "this is a nice knife" - no, Im not making an excuse. Therfore, I dont think the son told his friend not to do anything stupid with it. Of course, it goes withoutnsaying that this so called frien is a total idiot, moron, knucklehead, icouldgetworsebutwont. No normal person would do that with a gas station knife, much less something that feels and looks like a Sypderco.
I dont think the son knows the value that has been destroyed or will until he learns and buys his own knives. He had no skin in the game. Again, no excuse, but I cant make my coworker do anything to his son or his friend. I will suggest he tells him the retail price of the knife so there is some education...The best i could do was take the poor, little guy from him - which is how I got it to take the pic. I will do something to rehab it, so it can live its remaining days as a productive member of the Spyderco clan :D .
And truth be told, I knew This post would get all your creative writing skills going and raise your blood pressure for the weekend :D . Will re-post when I get something done to it. Thanks guys!

Welcome to the forum. Now cool it with the profanity....seriously!
Many here are pretty excited about seeing an abused knife, but some might say profanity on this forum is equally wrong.
Thanks,

Now gimme you car for a minute.... hey look! it can still be replaced. :Dgbelleh wrote:You guys are an emotional bunch!
It's a Spyderco, but still just a knife. It can be replaced! :D
Of course it can be replaced.... but I am emotionally attached to my knife. :D After carrying your knife for a long time, it almost becomes a part of you, a limb, so to speak. So essentially, losing a knife is like me ripping off your arm and going, "don't worry, there's always prosthetics!"
Okay, maybe an exaggeration, but you understand what I'm trying to say?
Carry a sharp knife, and life will never be dull

I've searched exchanging blades and found out some things for you:
Generally you have to change the blade and the lock bar in order to get it to work. The handles are similar, but the bars are generally cleaned up for the exact blade in the fit and finish part of the process.
Also, tell him to get his son a sharp screwdriver or a prybar and give it to his son saying "I got YOU a new KNIFE."

RIP FFG G-10 Delica blade. I don't think there's any more life left in that blade. This is what knives in spyderco **** look like...
