Apparently you CAN make a knife too pretty

#1

Post by Stasis »

Yesterday was my mother's birthday, and I got her a Dragonfly Tattoo. I knew she'd like it, but as soon as she saw it she pretty much said it's too pretty to use. She doesn't want to "mess it up"!

I insisted she use it, but I don't think I convinced her. :p

I had gotten her an SS Delica 4 a few years back that she keeps in her purse, and fortunately, she uses that. She doesn't even use a knife much, mostly just to open or break down the occasional box. How do I convince her to use her pretty new Dragonfly? :D

Get her an FRN Dragonfly. She can use that and keep the pretty one with her jewelery.

Ground her. :) Tell her you'll take it away if she doesn't use it. I'd hate to suggest that you scratch it on purpose but I've had knives I didn't want to use for work because they still looked really nice. Gayle Bradley for example. But after the first scratch I don't care how bad they get scratched after that. My GB hasn't gotten scratched yet. That's the idea though. I still like the "grounding your mother" idea. :D

Tell her she's missing out on the enjoyment of using it - this might sound harsh, but you can't take things with you when you're gone, so enjoy them now. :)

- best wishes, Jazz.

Get her a jigged bone damascus Delica. Then the Dfly can be her beater.

Oh, such a sweet gift! Maybe try a bit of an emotional guilt trip to get her to use it? Like you put so much effort in choosing something nice for her and you would feel bad if she didn't enjoy it? Or just go with r small and get her an FRN version. May a D'fly Salt in pretty yellow? :p
She: Did you say pink :spyder: sprint run?! - He: Yeah. - She: Wow, wouldn't this go great with my purple Delica?! - He: ? - :D

:spyder: Delica 4 FFG purple ::: Dragonfly Salt Yellow SE ::: Ladybug Foliage Green PE ::: UK Penknife Safety Orange G-10 ::: Byrd Robin G-10 PE ::: Delica 4 FFG pink - modded to non-locking ::: Squeak ::: Grasshopper ::: Kiwi - got snagged by the husband ::: Endura 4 FFG Orange ::: Delica ZDP-189 ::: Centofante 4 ::: Byrd Tern ::: Manix 2 Blue Lightweight :spyder:

Knives have feelings too. A knife needs to be wanted and needed and would live a sad existence unless it was used in the manner that it was made. You can also tell her that you will sharpen it any time that it is needed. A knife is similar to a fine wine, except that it needs to be used to get better.
