Hi Solidstate,

I wouldn't say much about any design early in-the-works or we are forced to back off due to too much public information too early in the process.

I'll bet keeping quiet on a new design is gonna be tough too. ;) Congrats!

Thanks for the heads up Sal.
I'm sorry, I won't say anything more. I hope I didn't just ruin my chances.

I guess all of us forumites know that I'm not talking about this anymore. I hope you like it if you see it.

That's exactly why I went to them first, and why I'm going to keep my mouth shut about the design unless I'm talking directly to Peter or Sal..

I'm kind of surprised that they even took me seriously in the first place.

Great News!! They couldn't find any large flaws on paper and are going to test build your design for real. I have a sense this is a huge first step. It'll be neat to follow what happens over the next few months/year.

I actually made a model of my design (well multiple models) out of the plastic from a sterilite tub, with dowells for the pivots and pins. I used a clothespin to clip it in my pocket to test how nasty the models felt in the pocket as well. It was ghetto fabulous, but it got the point across and was an easy enough medium to work in that I was able to make the models with nothing but my Kiwi. As stupid as it sounds, I'd recommend this method to others as you can do everything with a drill and a :spyder: .

I highly suggest making a full-size model for any design you are trying to figure out. When I put my first iteration of the design on paper, it looked way better than the model felt when I went ahead with the model making. Some things look way better than they feel, and vice versa. I think presenting them something with hand feel has it's benefits as well.

This has been such a huge lesson for me. I really don't know anything about what to do except for what Sal writes on here. There was an incredibly helpful thread on here a few months ago. I took most of what I know from that.

It is fun having a secret, and with what Sal said earlier in the thread I hope I didn't ruin my chances.

Hi Solidstate,

Your chances are good. Your idea was well thought out and your effort to communicate that idea was genuine.

Wow o Wow....Way to go Solid!...Congrats on the upcoming proto....hope all goes well with it and it is received by many with open arms....I know you went through a long process of sitting on pins and needles.....and even now you have to sit on a spyderco proto....or at least keep the flapper shut for a while...LOL....My best and I wish you good luck in the endeavor...don't worry you are in good hands with Sal spearheading the project!.....Doc :D

It must be a nice design to get this far. Good luck, and I'll shut up now before I bring bad luck here. Joe
