My first spyderco :) Para 2

#1

Post by TinjaNurtle59 »

Well fellas... I just got my first spyderco and unfortunately... Spyderco is gonna empty my bank and ive found out what ive been missing out on :D I got the Paramilitary 2 two days ago and i'm really diggin it and especially the compression lock since it allows me to close it fast and get it back into my pocket. Well done Spyderco crew. Easily my favorite knife I own right now and I'm really impressed by how smooth, fast, and solid this tool is. The reason I got the spyderco is because I really had to see what ive been missing out on and i was looking for an improvement/equal quality tool to my griptilian but in a different brand and I made an excellent choice if Idaresaysomyself  Im thinking about going for a manix 2, tenacious, and a waved endura next.
I wanted to ask you folks if there is another spyderco with a compression lock (favorite lock type right now) that is either coming out or is out that you gents know of?
Thanks and good luck

And, so it begins... the addiction. Welcome and congrats. The Para 2 is one my favorites, too. I've got three of them (if I recall correctly). I've been carrying my digicam / DLC for quite a while now.

Oh and also, if there are any favorite lanyards you guys would recommend to use that will be a nice addition to my para 2, please post the name of the lanyard. The knife is practically beggin for one by the looks of the size of the lanyard hole.

You really shouldn't be digging with your knife. ;)

The superleaf and superhawk (hawk now disc, but possible to find with some effort) both have compression locks, the upcoming Yojimbo II I believe will have a compression lock as well. It's also my favorite lock, the para 2 is my favorite model followed by the Manix 2 and military, I'd recommend getting a full flat grind sprint manix if you can.

Thanks for the welcome and reply Racer. The para2 impressed me as soon as I picked it up and especially as soon as i shaved some nice patches on my forearm where hair is supposed to be lol. Spyderco has put me right onto a slippery slope. Got one spydie, now i want them all.

About a year and a half ago, I didn't have any knives. Bought a Caly 3 as my first. Now I have about 50 :spyder: s. :D

I guess I just didn't open my eyes enough. Plenty of models with the compression lock. That new yojimbo is looking slick though. Very handsome blade. I was wondering what the blade markings on the para 2 are? Designer trademark or something? I gotta know just incase if one of the people im showing it off too asks about it :)

+1 on the SuperLeaf (the knife pictured above with the Colt Commander). Got to handle one to fully appreciate.

Yes, designers marks. Sal and Eric Glesser (Spyderco founding father and son). Look closely, you can make out their names. Artists right down to their sigs.

Welcome to the slope ...

Okay now the superleaf is looking real snazzy to me right now. Its looking like the superleaf, cqc 7, and then the yojimbo2 (when it comes out) is my "soon to be knife" lineup as of right now.

You made a very wise choice in your knife selection. The Para Military 2 is a great knife with awesome S30v steel. I too love the Compression Lock. Works fantastic in the hand. I'm looking at the SuperLeaf for my next knife purchase and it also has the Compression Lock. The Manix 2 is another nice one I'm considering (see my latest thread).

Anyway , enjoy your new blade and treat it good. Spyderco 4 Life !!! :spyder:

Welcome to the forum. Ask your employer to just send half of your paycheck to your favorite knife web site. :D

I don't have a para2 but it is one of the most commonly called "my favorite Spyderco" by several people. If you are looking for "work" knives the Manix2 is a great choice. Someone mentioned a FFG Manix2. Bento box still has the Manix2 with M4 steel blade and tan G-10 handle scales. It is $153 though. I have one and many people here do also and I don't remember anyone saying it is overpriced. I like having mine.

Spyderco has so many models that fit into several categories that it's hard to decide which one (or two) is next. My favorite at the moment is the Sage1.

Scott's lanyards. He will make them with the colors you want. I have no idea what his limitations are. I got a few with different colors and they are great. I have a black/red one on my Gayle Bradley. The knot part is about 2" long. I prefer ones with about a 1" knot. I think he'll make them however you want. He makes them per order, or he did mine.

Chief2k is a seller on ebay. I've gotten several from him.

There is someone on this forum that ties his own and has some really great looking ones. His name is Phillipsted.

Get some leather or cord and make your own, that's what I do :) As others have mentioned the Superleaf is a nice knife and the Junior (a little smaller) as well.
