Anodized aluminum scales on my Manix

#1

Post by John Grimsmo »

I've been a Spyderco fan for the better part of 15 years, it's so much fun to finally have the ability to make cool stuff to pimp them!

Image

This one was taken partway through anodizing, the silver one is plain and the green one is what it looks like after 30 seconds in yellow dye and 90 seconds in green dye. Toxic green!

My wife made this carrying/display case and I took these to a recent knife show, the response was nothing short of incredible.

What do you think? Thanks for looking! :)

Impressive.

I dig the Orange set and adding your initials to the scales is a nice touch; subtle enough that I missed it at first glance.

What's the weight difference?

Thanks! I did some weight testing and found out that aluminum is 25% heavier than G10, adding a nice little heft to the knife. However if you're looking for cool handles with no added fat, check this out  :

It looks great, someone linked some youtube videos of these scales about a month ago.

I would buy a pair, PM me if you are making them for the public at some point.

Thanks guys! A lot of hard, fun work to get this far. Lots more to come!

Tons of interest in the orange ones, that's great to hear because my orange anodizing is one of my favorite colors. I only made the one set of orange ones and BladeHQ bought them from me, they're not listed on the site yet but if you bug them you might get lucky. I will be making more.

These look insane with black hardware!

Paramilitary 2 handles are coming next, I've been working on those today actually. Not sure what other spyderco's I'll be doing in the future, maybe the Military, maybe the UKPK.

I haven't worked much with Ti yet but it's something that's pretty high on my list. Once I get it "figured out" then I might start making limited runs of custom Ti scales.

Ti Paramilitary 2 anyone? Haha. Aluminum Para2 is coming up real soon.

I might consider doing Endura 4 and Delica 4 handles if there is sufficient interest, but Para2 first.

Awesome! Can't wait to see what you come up with for the Para 2 as well.

Also, you should really get on USN forum if your not already, their colors are toxic green and they will LOVE these especially with the black blade to match.
