Earthquake Philadelphia, PA

#1

Post by ATV1116 »

I just experienced my first earthquake here in Philadelphia, PA. Don't know too many details about it at the moment. Should be on the news as I am typing this. My workplace was evacuated, but we are back in the building right now...

Just heard that the Pentagon has been evacuated ... something in the region of a level 5 on the Richter scale ... I hope everyone is OK over there.

I felt it here in Georgia. It wasn't super noticeable though. I grew up in DC so my facebook news feed is blowing up right now.

Sure felt it here outside of Philly. Can't get through via cell to any of my family in Richmond and Charlottesville--just a few dozen miles from epicenter.

How long has it been since there was an earthquake on the east coast?

I felt it pretty good here in Northern Virginia. Shook my entire apt. building. Definitely scary.

Fortunately, I was standing at the sink with cutlets and breadcrumbs in a plastic bag.

Seriously though, t was my first quake, too. Two shocks, about a foot of lateral movement. It tipped over the coat rack in the hall. Doesn't appear to be much in the way of property damage, and I've heard no reports of injuries.

My Dad lives 28 miles from one of the cities, Louisa, VA which is one of the cities named as the location in that area. I just got off the phone with him and he's ok. He said it lasted about 10-12 seconds and lots of stuff is on the floor but no other damage that he knows of yet. He has a basement so he may not see anything down there until it rains.

I guess it went all the way to NYC. Learn more as the day goes on.

Jack

PS Edit: There is a nuclear power plant at Lake Anna not far from there (where my Dad lives). I bet they are inspecting everything right now. Hope all is well there.

According to the local news, it seems like quite a few folks in this area felt it. I didn't feel a thing, but I may have been outside walking Bear.

Hope nobody got hurt and that none of the folks here or their families suffered property damage.

Since September last year...having lived through three major quakes and over 7443 aftershocks...I feel for you guys...( about 2000 aftershocks were felt )

It is rather disconcerting, as it is one of the events that are near unpredictable...

I felt the earth move under my feet....up here in NY....second time I can remember in the past 15 years....I stood frozen for about 10 seconds waiting for the roof to start cracking in, (sure sounded like it would) but then it was over...Hope all is well with everyone closer to the quake site....Doc :D
