Just wondering if anyone here owns a cricket...is it worth the $100 for such a small knife?? :spyder:

Only you can decide if it's worth the money, but the Cricket is a fantastic little knife that can be had for almost half that price if you shop around. :)

What are you looking for in a knife? If you want something that's low-key and office-friendly, the Cricket fits the bill perfectly.

Since you are in Canada, I'll give you some links of Crickets for much less than $100 within Canada.

I shop from Warrior & Wonders because they are a Canadian company. Their prices aren't the best, usually 10% more than most places, but they beat all of the other popular American websites like Knive Center and Knife depot by having $10 shipping costs and usually only a day or two away in shipping. American shipping costs are usually $20-$25 range and a lot of places use USPS.

I've personally had to many knives held at the boarder for 3 weeks thanks to USPS, and will always try to buy from Warrior & Wonders if I can. I think companies like FedEx and UPS have third party companies that help with transporting goods over the boarder, which makes crossing a lot faster. USPS doesn't really care that much. :)

All in all, if your going to buy a knive, never pay MSRP!!!

Stainless Steel:$66.24 CDN

I am not a big fan of the cricket. I just do not like the blade shape and never carry mine and find that the etched spin is more useful for my needs.
However, a lot of plp love the cricket and I do think it is very well made and easy to carry but you can find it for a lot cheaper then $100.

Only trouble with buying in Canada (and as much as I love my country and want to support it) the taxes get you bad...that $66.24 is actually about $89.50. with taxes and shipping.

So, you might find it cheaper somewhere online or on a forum.

If you are looking to buy more than one knife, or if you need...something else. You might want to look at Cutlery Shoppe. The Cricket is like $54 there, but for International there is a $100 minimum order. But shipping is only $13. So if you get a cricket and a _____. Then you will get a great deal on a cricket (think about it, $54 plus full shipping is only $67) plus some other little gift for your self. Maybe a 79MM Rescue right now only $33!

Hmmm for me it came out to like 80 shipped with taxes...

Cricket: 66.20CDN
Shipping: 10.50CDN
Goverment Tax (5%): 3.31CDN
Total: 80.01CDN

In Comparison: (Knive Center)
Cricket: 59.95CND
Shipping & Handeling: 24.95CND
Total: 84.90CND
+Possible duty charges

But, still true... there are FORSURE cheaper places to buy, but I am way to impatient and rather pay a little more to get it faster! :p

You gotta decide that :p . It's your money. I would hold one first as that's significantly more expensive as it costs many of us.

Shipping from BC to Ontario with W&W is either $12.50 or $12.95...can't remember, not $10.50. And taxes are 13%, which is charged on both the item and the shipping.

But if bought in the US for under $60 there is no duty charge. BUT it depends on what the place charges for shipping. CS is the best shipping rate that I have seen. Most are charging about $25. (Which IMO is just a complete joke as it gets you no better delivery than a USPS flat rate box which will take 2 standard Spyderco boxes and is $12)

I see... I forgot about some very key factors...
Shipping to Sask $10.50, and we only get charged 5% GST. (we don't get charged 5% PST for knives)

... I wasn't aware that Ontarios taxes were so high. (13%)

location, knife costs, shipping costs, & final costs really depend on a lot of factors.

Yeah you are closer to BC so shipping is slightly cheaper, and we have the HST...both taxes combined into one. It makes things more expensive than they should be...

That is why I always say to look around. I like putting money back into Canada, but at the same time, I don't want to pay substantially more than whatever the item I am buying is worth. W&W is a pretty good place to shop and the guys there go out of their way to make every transaction a good one...but paying $90 for a $60 knife seems a bit unreasonable to me.

I usually hunt the forums first, and then the shops. Shipping form the States to Here...usually about $6-$12.

I would like to see a left hand sprint run of the Cricket, PE. Some day, maybe.

Look on the buy and sell forums at bladeforums.com and knife-bst.com. I got a frn cricket for $30 at the second site. It feels better in the hand than stainless and it's much lighter.

Just to toss in my two cents... Personally I think the cricket is the best knife you can get for the size. I have owned quite a few others in nearly the same size category including the Boker Plus CLB subcom. I am sure many will have different opinions but, as said before, I think this is the leader for the type of knife it is. Obviously it is for light edc use or for when you find yourself in a pinch. I find that the reverse S shaped blade gives you the best of both worlds; first a precision tip for the find cutting of paper or other similar material, a hawk bill for efficient cutting of cordage as well as slashing and a large (for the size of the blade) belly. You have a lot of options with this blade, but like all multi-purpose things it is good at every task but not superb at any. The knife is an ace up your sleeve if you will. Also I love the fact that with the pocket clip removed it slides right into my wallet and I carry it unnoticed. The blade is VG-10, most other knives in this size use cheaper less capable steels. Finally it goes without saying it's fit and finnish is unmatched, as with all other spyderco products I own. I highly recommend this knife. Yes it is a grip of money, but you do get a lot of knife....
You can tell a lot about a person by how they keep their knives.
