I don't think we will have as many Chinooks as the Rocky, Rambo, Terminator and the Karate Kid Movies....but you never know!....Doc :D

I thought I recalled someone saying Spyderco was working with Perrin on a new model. However, that could be a convincing lie from my subconscious.

I don't know, but I wish they'd do a Chinook sprint with the original grind.

That would be cool as long as they drill it for tip up carry capability.

A knife like that I would actually think that 3V would be a good option too!

I'd talked with Sal on a couple of past occasions regarding a Chinook IV, and the feedback I got was that it was not officially ruled out, or words to that effect.

I will say if there is another collaboration with James Keating on another Golden made Spyderco TANK, I'd be the first in line.

I still say that S-90V would be an interesting choice of steels for another run / whatever may come of the concept, and I too would like to see a renaissance of the original grind.

Does anyone know where I can find a chinook 3? Hunting season is coming up, and this knife will be perfect for skinning and working my elk and deer.

It's been discontinued for a while. You can check Ebay or various forums but expect sticker shock. You might consider something else with a decent belly to it or even a fixed blade. The Spyderco Bill Moran drop-point or trailing point would be nice.

Several of them on eBay at the moment, all from sellers with decent feedback. Country Knives also seems to have at least one in stock.

If I was going to craft a self defence knife I would build it around the moly/tungsten carbide alloys due to the edges they take in all their savagely lacerating glory.

Super blue, F1/F2, plus a bunch of european steels.

They can take low edges, have good edge stability and pretty good wear resistance. They work highly polished or nasty and lacerating with that bite I so love. No serrations allowed or needed.

:)

You know funny thing is...I carry a ChinookII I think it's a great all around knife...even for SD. Mr. Keating on the other hand does not carry a Chinook though he thinks it's a great knife...He carries other knives he designed like the Hornet, and he is fond of carrying a big Randal knife. and something else small that he likes to throw at people when SHTF (as a distraction)....LOL....Doc :D

Thanks, I have my fixed blades in order, but if you have ever skinned and quartered a bull elk, it takes more than 1 good knife. It might take several. Or alot of sharpening. I have a gayle bradley and a manix 2 in m4, but I didnt buy the chinook when I should have and am now regretting it. Perfect skinning blade in my opinion, and s30v would hold a good edge for a while. And its probably the stoutest blade spyderco makes.

Eric mentioned that he wanted to make a new version of the Chinook. We just put it on the project list.
