Brass or Copper will be a bugabear to keep looking good though. Not that there is anything wrong with using those materials, but you had better keep that can of Brasso (polish used by the military) handy! Even a safe queen will need constant attention to keep it looking good. :) :)

I think either material would be decent if not "load bearing". Brass or Bronze in load-bearing situations would be decent I think (eg: The Romans).
Personally I LOVE patina. It looks rustic in the way that makes me think of expertly crafted Bruschetta or fire-roasted salsa out of a mortar and pestle.
Unlike tarnish on steel it doesn't lead to rust and while artifacts from the ancient days have degraded over time they have stood up far better than the iron equivalents. Frankly I don't care if people find my knife collection in 3052 and the blades have disintegrated...screw the future, I'm selfish =p

Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

Copper and brass look pretty, but I really don't like the funky smell they leave on my hands.
