Ever Miss the Mailman?

#1

Post by jotobo »

There you are, every day on-the-hour checking the tracking information, following every step of the knifes journey to your hands. Imagining all the things you can use it for.

But then you miss the delivery.

Like a child, you kick and scream but eventually drive all the way to the Fed-EX, UPS, or Post Office to pick it up because you cant take one more day without your new knife?

Is it just me or is there something wrong with all of us?

YES! I know what you mean. I just take the delivery out of the plan and just go get it at the post office when they open.

Been there, done that. More than once. Heck, more than a few times when I was working and would come home to find the "attempted delivery" sticker on my door then race to the PO or UPS office. Did get really annoyed with UPS a couple times when, after being home all day waiting for something that was "out for delivery", I checked their website, saw it show as "attempted delivery", then found the sticker on my door. Small apartment, loud doorbell, no TV or stereo blaring, they could not possibly have knocked or rang.

You should ask for "no signature required" when you order. Unless you are in a place where you do not feel comfortable.

The mail comes at a reasonable hour only when I'm NOT expecting something.

YES!!! I've chased him down many a time and the UPS driver too. I probably know my mailman's route as well as he does! :D

USPS never updates the tracker thing so I'm never sure about when it's going to arrive at my house. It almost always updates at the sorting facility where it ships out of but then nothing until it shows up in my mailbox. I've learned to sort of put the delivery in the back of my mind for a few days so it doesn't drive me crazy.

Oh yeah, like Pavlov's dog! Waiting for my reward. :)

Our UPS guy will call ahead when he has a delivery. Our driveway is not pleasant to walk down and shear torture to walk up so I drive up to meet him at the top when I can.

Our letter carrier and the FedEx driver have smaller trucks so they drive in and out. Our driveway alarm tells us someone is there so we can avoid the "attempted delivery" disappointment. :(

I will get up in the morning and start checking tracking numbers around 6am when i know that my mail is delivered between 3-5pm.
I have to keep myself busy on the days i am expecting a new knife or i go crazy. Tomorrow i have one coming in the mail so i will be making and jarring hot sauce all day.

That happened to me two days ago. Had to go out back to receive a delivery of gravel and missed the mailman. Picked up the knife the next day.

I sure do miss my old mailman. We were on a first name basis and if my wife and I weren't home then he'd come back later in the day to delivery it. Best mailman I've ever had and made sure he got a card with a 20 in it and some homemade cookies that my wife made at Christmas. Someone else has this route now and it's just not the same.

I gave my best-ever mailman a mini-Buck last Christmas (ran out of Grasshoppers).

He loved it, but then quit when the Postal Service increased his route so that he couldn't finish before 6 or 6:30 p.m. Since then, we have new replacement every few weeks.

I do recommend the "no signature required," if you are comfortable with that. And I won't do business with dealers who add "signature required" without telling the customer.

I've missed a few so I adapted to the situation. I now have them delivered to my work.

Chased down the mailman last week as he was only about a block down. Was running at him waiving a signature card. All he saw was the frantic look in my eye and heard me speaking jibberish probably! Ha ha
Of course I could have waited until the next day but I ask you why?

I've lived in the same area for a while now, so I've learned the schedule of all the delivery services that are typically used.

USPS Mailman: Noon-1PM

FedEx: ~3 PM

UPS: Between 4-6 PM, depending on the day of the week.

God help me if I end up moving.
