Turned 21, here comes the real world.
As of 9AM this morning according to my mother, I'm 21. Already have my own place and a sustaining job keeping me in school, Roth IRA opened a few weeks ago, officially a handgun owner as of an hour ago . Spent my 21st birthday in class (two majors and minors, summer school) and working, on-duty all night, final exam tomorrow. Highlight of the day was my 90 year old grandfather calling to wish me luck...and brag about how he's now done doing everything I have ahead of me. I don't drink, but sometime soon I'll have to pick a dive bar that has some atmosphere for the weekends. Been around the world and back...haven't actually done anything, though. Well, here goes the rest of my life...Wish me luck, I'll need it.
Sounds like you've been in the real world for a long time. Keep up the good work.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

Enjoy it! Sounds like you might want to start looking for a significant other. Most other strings seem tied.

Happy 21st! Sounds like your head is screwed on right and youre headed in the right direction. If you conservatively figure on 3 Spydies per year, youve got 45x3=135 Spydies to look forward to :D ...sounds like fun. Have a good time!

Knifestyle,
Happy belated birthday. You and your family have to be proud of your achievements. I do not think that many people of your age can say the same about themselves. And of cause Good luck and best wishes.

Belated congrats bud! When I turned 21, my principle interests were women and various grain-derived fluids... so you are already way ahead of me by virtue of the 401k alone. Welcome to the proud fraternity of handgun owners as well... I've one or two of those myself :p

Maybe someday you can get outta Illinois and live somewhere that'll let you carry it too :D .
Joking aside, enjoy this year my friend... it is one of the better ones.

Not to disagree with SolidState, not really, but I advise you don't LOOK for a significant other. Here are two examples of "significant other" situations. One guy I worked with was 25 (I was 21) and said "it's time I start thinking of a family". He wasn't even dating anyone special at the time. Six months later he got married. Another (younger) guy said "I don't ever want to be married". It was about a year later he got married. I don't know what happened to either couple. I remember thinking the younger guy "found" someone that changed his mind about being married and the older one "found" someone because he had decided to pick someone. Like deciding to get a knife then picking the one you want compared to not wanting a knife, then seeing one you can't live without and buying it.SolidState wrote:Enjoy it! Did that make any sense?
Jack
PS edit: I don't think SolidState meant you should get married this afternoon. :D Just that most other areas of life seem to be in good shape for someone your age. I don't mean "your age" to be condisending. :D

I'm dating pretty regularly, the m-word is getting saved for a good while later. This generation is pretty taboo about it, even mentioning it gets some awkward silences. A good buddy of mine got hitched at 23, but I look at those two and...really can't see around it, they click that well. I know three guys my age with divorces, all from the military mindset of getting her parents to sign off at 17 and moving her on-base with you. My high school had the big MTW-style wedding of two white collar 17 year olds, they lasted a year after a wedding that cost more than my education.
Right now, my goal in dating is to treat the girl right and enjoy the bonding and company. Most every girl I've dated is career-oriented and wants to be established and stable first.

It's good for both parties to be in a position that if a split happens (hopefully not) one won't be hard pressed to live comfortably. If she can support herself you will know she isn't staying with you for your money. :D Some men get upset if "she" makes more than he does. If my wife made more than me that would be great! Then I could spend all of mine on me!! :D On a good day I might even get my hands on some of hers also!!! :DKnifestyle wrote:I'm dating pretty regularly, the m-word is getting saved for a good while later.
