Shipping delays for Seki models?

#1

Post by Armalite Native »

Hey -

Just a quick question to find out if the recent disasters in Japan are slowing production and shipping to wholesalers for Seki made Spyderco knives? I would appreciate if anyone knows - I did a forums search and came up blank.

Thx

I can't imagine much. The Ayoob and Lum sprints came FAST! That said, no clue the start and end build dates.

Thanks Blerv for the fast response. Trying to track down why the G10 Dflys are taking so long to get to wholesalers in a few countries at the moment :) .

Been waiting 6 weeks now for them to come back into stock. I know a few people from different countries experiencing this problem.

Hmm strange. My guess is they just cycle runs. No clue what seki's operation is like but that's how I would do it.

I'd just keep digging or call a place you trust on Monday for the scoop. Goodluck!

I am also wondering what the hold up is with the G-10 dragonflies. CS has been out for weeks. If he doesn't get them in soon I'm just going to bite the bullet and get one on ebay for $80 instead of the awesome $70 CS charges

I'd be more surprised if the "rolling blackouts" situation in Japan has not slowed down production of knives to some extent than if it has. However, in the case of the G-10 Dragonfly, it could also just be that the next batch is on schedule but that demand exceeded Spyderco's expectations when the contract was put together.

Thanks folks. I am in a position where I can go through one dealer and one dealer only to get hold of the G10 Fly (in a challanged country). I suppose I will have to sit on it and wait - just feel stupid for paying up in advance.

Yeah that is unfortunate. It will come. Just give it some time. I'm waiting for the same knife. I'll let you know when mine ships from CS

Thanks v much Walz :) . I got some other toys on the way that are a bunch more expensive but I am really jonesing for the fly cause I intend to pimp it with waterbuffalo horn jigged handles.

I think a G10 fly like this would look badarse. If CS don't have them then there must be a bit of a shortage atm.

Well CS sells a lot of volume rather than making high margins on individual sales. There are tons of g-10 Dflys out there, but they are $90+ I got mine on backorder for $70 with free shipping. The cheap places are out. Still lots of new ones in the secondary markets and high-margin retailers.

Urgh where I live....$120 I crap you not. And on top of that the exchange rate on our currency vs the US is $1.03 or something. This knife better wash my cloths, get me beers and paint me pictures for the price :) .

Odd thing is a para 2 will set me back about $150 (standard model). Considering quality difference and size - shouldn't the Para 2 be closer to $200?

Why can't you just buy online from good dealers with better prices? Is customs a problem?

Places like Knifecenter aren't my cheapest options, but they do ship around the world

You can get a para2 in the states for around $100 for the satin blade and $110 for the DLC coated blades (in either digcam or black) . I would never be able to pay the prices you are mentioning now that i know how much most of them cost at good dealers here in the US. Still, if you worry about customs taking it; expensive is better than paying and not getting it at all. I have no where locally that sells Spyderco. The site says gander mountain has them, but they didn't have a single one at either of my local stores.

Knife laws are ridiculous. Without even getting into the political aspect of all of it, it is still just silly that I have to measure a utility tool to abide by the law. Last time I checked nailguns had few, if any, regulations for use, and they are some dangerous weapons if the safety feature are disengaged.

Yeah - Australia - I try to keep it on the down low so we don't set off "that thread" again. Importing here is really really hard.

Its not to big an issue - I can wait but its still nice to have people to talk to here eh? If mine turns up first I will let you know but I doubt it - I am pretty sure CS being a big retailer will get a batch first.
