hey all, I just started my first classes at Southern Illinois University, and just got a chance to explore the campus today and visited the campus museum, and got very excited when there was an exhibit about metalworking. I got really excited when I saw the focus of the exhibit was about Daryl Meier, the grandfather of damascus steel. There were two tantos on display that he had made himself, and it turns out that he studied at SIU. Here's his website: http://meiersteel.com/ I thought it was neat to be going to the same school that mr. Meier learned at.
Because he was the one who made damascus steel more popular in the US. He and Bill Moran are many times seen as the people who revitalized damascus steel to what it is today.
Salukis are actually some pretty fast dogs used for hunting originally. Like most dogs their purpose is lost in modern society. That's pretty awesome to go to that school though maybe you can learn some of the trade secrets. No one is still really sure how damascus was made back then but they brought it back from the dead. As far as I know it had pretty much disappeared and the technique was lost. The way its made now is purely from speculation and experimenting. So I've read anyway.

That sounds like really goofy advice but I hope you listen to it. I can't think of anyone I've known who can say they appreciated the good times in their life as much as they wish they had, including myself. Happy school dayz. :)
What are you going to school for? I mean what are you studying. I know you aren't there just to meet girls. :D
