Blue Aqua Salt

#1

Post by gunnut35 »

I am not a fan of the color yellow so i decided to dye one of my aqua salts blue. What do you all think of it in blue?
I used royal blue RIT and i am surprised at how well it turned out, and will be doing my Dragonfly salt the same color.

That looks like green. :)

Looks better than yellow in my opinion, but in grass or water I think it would disappear easier.

LOL
I have not had any other salts that i have dyed loose any color yet.
Just 5min in the dye and it was green so i left it in for 30min and now it is blue, but I did have to ask my wife to verify the color because i do have some trouble telling colors apart.

I just purchased one with a collector # or it for $60. did I get a good deal? I have no idea what they sold for.

not better if you need to grab it in a hurry after you got pulled overboard from getting your foot tangled in some 1" thick rope. least that's one of the best uses for this knife that I can think of. you ever watch that show on discovery "Deadliest Catch". I know if I had to cut that rope in a hurry to save my life or someone else's, I sure would like to have an aqua salt to do the job.

yellow stands out better than the blue is all.

it does look real nice though.

You probably got yours from the same place as i got mine and 60 is a great deal. I do have another yellow one that goes out fishing so this one is for around the house and to be added to my edc rotation.

i actually really like the yellow because it's easy to see, but....i like your blue better than the black. nice job...looks good, and quite unique. if you ever sell it i expect to see it on ebay years down the road, "sprint run blue aqua salt, one of a kind." :)

I love it. This is what I want to do to the dragonfly. Is that royal blue? Could you please provide details?

Its RIT royal blue.
I heat water in the microwave for 3min in a tall mug and dissolved two table spoons of the dye in it. Just add the kife and leave it in until you get the color you want, (keep it stirred). For folders just remove the clip first and wash the whole knife to remove the oils. On the yellow handles sunrise orange, and tan work really well but the tan will come out as a dark brown or chocolate color.

Just have fun with it.

Looks awesome! Goes with the ocean theme of the salt. But it would be harder to find in the water. Is that why they make it yellow? So it will stand out if you dropped it into the sea?

I wont have to find out with this one since i have another yellow one for fishing. I fish off shore so it would not matter what color it was because if i drop it in the ocean its lost. :)

They do take the orange dye really well. I have dyed a couple of my ladybug salts orange and will post a pick of them in a few minutes.

These are ladybug salts, so they started out yellow.
They were done with RIT SUNSHINE orange, and the brown one was RIT tan.
I carry the one one with the clip and the brown one on my key chain everyday and the color is still like it was the day i dyed them.

The reason why you see a lot of dive gear the color yellow is the deeper you go underwater, the more colors "disappear". As you are diving you start to "lose" color the deeper you go, starting with R-O-Y-G-B-I-V (the order they appear in the color spectrum). The water will absorb the light.
