"Knives have great depth. History, geography, metalurgy, hi tech materials, design, interesting mechanisms, everyday function plus the beauty in the creation of each piece.
It's an addictive hobby though. Be careful."

Usually when someone asks how old I am, I have to ask what year it is, then break out the calculator. Then I ask what month it is so I can see if I've had a birthday yet that year. :p
Good job on the age groups, the last poll like this didn't have that smooth curve to the distribution.

I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

I'm also curious about the under-18 crowd. There must be a few; I know I got my first SAK when I was 6, and an original Buck Crosslock (wish that model was still around) when I was 12. I think I bought my first Endura at 13 (with my own money, pretty sure it was my first internet purchase, too), and considering you can still get a learner's driving lisence at 14 it makes perfect sense to have young guys out there with little big knives.
Then again, I'm mentoring a 12-year-old who isn't even allowed metal forks at his school, so maybe I'm overly optimistic about EDC knives for the upcoming generation.

50 here, but I've had a knife of some form or another since I was 6-7.
18 's and counting so far...

52 here, and I had to do the math. Many years ago I realized it was simpler to memorize birth day and year once rather than age annually. That combined with mad subtraction skills allows me to amaze my acquaintances, year after year. "How does he do it???"
I am glad to see so many younger forumites, it bodes well for the future.

24 here and I grew up with a knife in my pocket. I've had one since I can remember. I even made the mistake in first grade to bring one to school. I also rememeber bringing a buck to the airport when I was 9 or so and they called the head of security on me. He checked the knife for serrations then said go ahead. Funny how times have changed so much in such little time. Glad I found spyderco though. But buck wasn't a bad place to start. Still have those bucks too. But I carry spydercos now. Some people still freak out over knives though. Just one of those things man has carried around for thousands of years.

Almost 17 here. have been using Spydercos for about a year and a half now. Sad, seeing that we can't even use plastic knives in our cafeteria, so we have to try to cut with plastic forks and spoons. I'm amazed that they haven't banned our shop, because it would be "too dangerous for our kids". Funny thins is, is that you have to take a safety course on climbing a ladder. Also, a girl got EXPELLED for having a pen knife.
Sad, sad days, my friends...
