Finally got myself a Carpenter steel Para 2
Finally got myself a Carpenter steel Para 2
Well, this was a gratifying experience.
I was griping about the fact that I may have missed out on the CTS-20CP Para 2 and was resigned to paying the secondary market mark up for one. Someone at Bentoboxshop read my post and emailed me, offering me a leftover Para 2 at their pre-order price.
Needless to say, I took them up on the offer and got my knife today. I'm a little embarrassed and happy at the same time. They saved me a pretty good chunk of change that I was ready to spend on top of getting me a great knife.
So this is my public thank you to them.

Very nice. The para2 is one of those knives that I am dying to get but keep putting it on hold. The main reason being is that it would be too big for me to EDC. But I still love the looks of it!

This was the first time a vendor contacted me, offering a knife I was looking for from a forum posting. I've ordered from them only twice in the past so it wasn't like I was a regular customer of theirs. Very cool.

Hm, that's pretty strange... I wonder how that worked?nova wrote:You got a better price from them than they offered me yesterday ($220 + shipping). If I wanted to pay that much I'd buy from a scalper on ebay.

Mine should be here sometime next week!
After getting through a bunch of error messages on PayPal, I was finally able to confirm payment on my new Spyderco Paramilitary 2 CTS-20CP Gray Sprint.
Thank you, Dan, for posting that BBS had some available. I didn't pay $220USD, but I must say that it was up there after shipping and insurance.
My Stretch CF is still (by far) the most expensive, thanks in part to the awesome performance of the U.S. Dollar against other currency (yeah, right...)
Happy now, though. Holding some $$$ now for some of the goodies announced over in Amsterdam.
Thanks, Sal & Co. for the great products!

Spyderbitten in 2011 and haven't been the same since.
I got one a few weeks ago and I think they are really fantastic knives. The edge holding is really great as expected but another thing that I really like is the quality of the edge which seems very fine (or fine grained) after I touched up the factory grind and it seems to get very sharp very easily. For example, I can restore it to ultra sharpness after the ultra sharpness has started to fade a little with literally only 4 or 6 strokes per side on the Sharpmaker (2 on the medium and 2 on the fine, and optionally 2 on the UF rods), all in the 30 degree slots.
I even like the silver colored clip (usually I prefer black) which looks great with the light gray colored scales and the color of the blade and screws. Also, the light gray is showing dirt much less than I expected it would. So all in all, a super great Para 2, imo.
Edit: I should note that my usual practice is to completely redo the factory edge because I don't like the rough scratch marks in the bevel left by the factory grind and I like to put a mirror polish on my bevels. But in the case of the P2 Carpenter sprint, I decided to just leave the factory grind alone because I didn't want to "waste" any of the precious 20CP steel. Also, I figured it would be a fair amount of work to grind the rough scratch pattern out due to how wear resistant 20CP is. So I've just been touching up the factory edge on the Sharpmaker as described above, as needed, which in my case is about 1x or 2x per week because I like to keep the edge extremely sharp at all times. So most of the scratch pattern from the factory grind is still on my Carpenter P2's bevels although the high points of the deep scratches are gradually starting to get worn down. But fortunately right at the actual edge, it is very smooth (and thus very sharp) but this can only be seen with magnification.

Yeah I was too was also surprised. I had three maybe four preorders in and had given up. Then late one night last week I checked my email and said BBS wanted to be payed and I was like for what??? Then I look and see and was like heck yes. I love how fast they ship too, they mailed it on Sat. and I got it Monday. Box was a little tattered but not bad, knife was perfect with centering grinding and everything else.

I will probably have to do without one and lose my money too. After over a week delay from ETA, the ebay seller seems to be playing the lost in transit card. Seller has a history of mis-sending packages.

You can file a claim through ebay and probably get a refund that way. Or, if you paid with a credit card, you can dispute the transaction with your CC company.

I already opened a case in ebay, that's the only reason the seller replied. He didn't reply to my communications before I opened the case. Still, does ebay or paypal refund for "lost in transit" items?mongatu wrote:You can file a claim through ebay and probably get a refund that way. I don't really know the answer to that but I suspect that they probably do, but that is just a guess. But the way they promote their
"coverage" it sounds like that would be covered. You could visit their site and read the fine print to find out exactly what is excluded from being covered.
On a side note: I always use a credit card even when paying through PayPal because that way I can always dispute the transaction with my credit card company. All I have to tell them is that I never received the goods I paid for and that usually is sufficient for them to credit me the money back. So far they have always paid but I've never had to deal with the specific situation where the seller claimed the item was sent but lost in the mail. But my experience is that the CC companies are pretty generous about most situations where the customer didn't get what he paid for.

If it has delivery confirmation and it shows it never made it to you then I am sure you can debate it through paypal and get your money back.chuck_roxas45 wrote:I already opened a case in ebay, that's the only reason the seller replied. Thanks, I'd like it better if I get the package though.Freediver wrote:If it has delivery confirmation and it shows it never made it to you then I am sure you can debate it through paypal and get your money back.
