That's how i closed it...by my thumb, basically just like a liner lock on the spine of the knife instead of the belly.

Try this though...i've been playing with my Sage left handed...i find that it's actually easier for me to close it with my middle finger pressing the lock closed than it is to close it with my thumb on my right hand. That might sound a little strange but it's like second nature with my middle finger on my left hand because that finger rests in the groove where the lock is..i just bring my finger tip up and press it and the blade drops. I could probably operate a lefty designed liner lock with my right hand better than a regular liner lock.

This i found was just too hard on my fingers...and i have large/strong hands. In fact after playing with the knife for about 10 minutes, my thumb was sore.

Spyderco produced one compression lock model, the Gunting, with the lock on the other side. It was built that way at the request of Bram Frank, who thought the normal compression lock favored left hand use. It was the only compression lock model to receive a significant number of "wrong handedness" complaints from right handed users.

For me the comp lock is as easy with the left hand as the right.

Since the Para2 is drilled for lefties as well it would be a good choice imho.

Greetings from another southpaw.

Has anybody noticed any ergonomical problem when using a knife with a compression lock left handed?

I was thinking that the lock pice could be in the wrong position for the meaty part of the base of the thumb?

Paul, I think Bram Frank referenced safety from accidental closing as his reason for switching the side.

Hearing all these leftist stories reminded me of Billy Cobham, a freight train of a drummer who came to prominence with Miles Davis and then the Mahavishnu Orchestra. At a seminar someone asked him how he became so ambidextrous. He said that he taught himself to play using an instruction book and a mirror. Matching the mirror to the book, he didn't realize that he was learning to play left handed. Since he was naturally right handed he became extraordinarily ambidextrous.
Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

:spyder: All you lefties do not forget MANIX2, great SPIDIE for right or left sided people :D . . . . I am a rightie but i have learned to use my left hand too from the age of 12 (write, eat, shoot etc). . . . When i carry a SPIDIE left side front pocket, i prefer the MANIX2 and have my PM2 CF S90V right side front pocket :) . . . . :spyder:

I just wanted to chime in and add that I too have zero difficulties operating the Para 2 left-handed. The only lock I have any problems with as a leftie, is right-handed linerlocks with too much access to the locking tab, in some designs that tends to pinch my fingers. Personally, I don't consider using the Pare 2 'adapting' in any way, but I am of the 'flexible school of lefties who love knives'. :D

Well, you are going to always get Delica for an answer to that question. Best thing though is to get to a local shop and try them out.

but Delica, Dragonfly, Leaf Storm, UKPK, Sage 1....all those are good choices.

I'm a righty but I have no problem releasing the lock & closing the P2 with my left hand (palm up, using the thumb to press the release lever). Only negative is that the grip on the knife while closing it lefty is not quite as secure as I would like but it's not too bad. If I had to only use the left hand to close it, it wouldn't stop me from owning what I consider one of, if not the best, folders I've ever had the pleasure to own.

I love the para1 as a RH knife. I thought I would give the PARA2 a shot since it has LH carry option. I don't like it as a lefty knife closing. It's very possible and easy to do in several ways but they feel either awkward or insecure in hand when doing so. I'd rather carry RH and switch hands as needed or carry a backlock or axis lock for LH carry.

I feel that the Para 2 was made for lefties :) . Really. I find it very easy to disengage the lock on my all black. My first one in satin and black is a bit more difficult but not by much. I don't know how you righties are able to close it :D

When I had a superhawk, it was hard left handed until I figured it out, then I actually thought it was easier left handed than right handed.

It's def not going to stop me from getting a Yo 2.
