Shiny!

#1

Post by Zoldner »

So I just got an etched spin in a trade along with some ladybugs, and I love just how shiny the little thing is! The only problem is fingerprints. Are there many other spydercos out there that are polished to a mirror shine like that?

Is it the etched or the one with the wed design?
I don't have problems with the etched and fingerprints. The crickets are pretty shinny.

yup, it's the etched. the blade on mine is WAY more polished than the one pictured. I've been kinda scared that it's a rip-off. There was a thread I dug up about fake spins that look just like the real thing. What scares me is that the bug on the blade is different from the one on my ffg delica/endura. It has a white line all the way around it and the lines from the laser are vertical rather than horizontal. I'm not sure if I should contact Spyderco, and if it is a fake then there's probably nothing they can do about it. The first thing I noticed, though, is that the vg-10 blade doesn't have that laminated look to it that my delica does.

Looks like it's probably one of the fakes. :( Looks like I'll have a chat with the person I got it from, I'm guessing they had no idea it wasn't the real thing.

Yeah, I'm just not sure if I should ask for my knife back or money equivalent to it. He was nice enough, though.it's just frustrating to get excited about something and find out it's not what I wanted.

Whatever you do, do it quickly. You never want to gamble with stuff like this, who knows what the seller will say if you wait any longer to approach him...

Looks very convincing but it's the little things such as surface finish that give it away.

VERY rare Spydercos are mirror polished like that, most are satin finished (shiny but you can make out the lines from grinding). Also the logo does look a bit off. The etching is also too rounded off and polished, looks almost like it came straight from a mold. Are the screws hex (hexagonal) or Torx (like a 6 point star)? AFAIK all Japan, USA and Taiwan made Spydies have torx screws.

Contact the seller and get your money back ASAP. :(

That is a bummer. Spin is a very cool little knife. My money likes being clipped to it! Hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction and then get a real one.

Too bad. The Spin is one of the very few knives I have purchased a back-up of.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Well, i just found out he got it in a different trade from someone who got it from a gun show. The guy is offering him a persistence to make up for it. Now the guy I got it from is saying I can either take the persistence or nothing. What a great way to start out knife trading. :( And now he thinks I'm trying to scam him into thinking it's a fake.

How did things end up and does this guy have a username on other websites/forums as he might be offering this fake spin for sale:

The spin in that picture is mine. I was never aware that was fake until now. Would love some confirmation please as I am in a little trouble for selling it. If it is fake, someone on bladeforums who traded it to me is about to be in big trouble. Sorry Jon for the trouble on your forums.

After seeing the pictures above, I'm going to conclude that it is indeed fake. I am resolving this with Jon at the moment to clear things up. I mean no trouble. Now I'm going to have another problem with someone on bladeforums. Hope this will be easy to resolve.
