Well... :rolleyes: I never thought of sharpening the FRN...

I used a reinforced cutter wheel on my Dremel - those things are serious! It felt the same all the way through. It was slow going and I was just careful - I didn't want an accident - then I'd have to show my wound in another thread.

Hi, just completed this as a gift for my dad's retirement. Took off the original carbon fibre scales and added mammoth tooth.

Your dad has to be about the luckiest guy on the planet. That is absolutely stunning! I'm sure that he will be extremely happy with that as his retirement present from you. Who wouldn't be! Thanks for sharing it with us.

If you notice the writing is white/shiny, so it was originally an all black model. If I were to choose the easiest way, I would just scratch some of the finish off in that pattern.

It does look pretty nice.

I started with a dremel/wire wheel. The wire wheel hardley did anything except leave a shiney abrasion that I though was stripping the coating right to the blade steel. Then I would wipe it down and the blade was still black! DLC = very tough. I did each stripe on both sides about 5 times each then blended them in with some worn plumbers sand cloth. The cloth left alot of fine scratches you cant see in picture. Going to bead blast the whole blade this weekend and it should leave a smooth matte finish like the lock bar cut out on the ZT.

Thanks. No, no oil. I've never heard of using oil for any part of the blueing process. Then again, I've just kinda been winging it anyway, learning more each time I do it. If there's an neat effect or specific job a bit of oil would do, id love to hear about it.

My buddy Dan has givin me quite a bit of useful info since I started fooling around with fire. He mentioned masking the ti with clay to make fine lines, if I wanted them, and I was planning to play around with that the next time I get some ti knives around. Plan to hunt around for a cheap Chokwe, all the sharp angles and straight lines on the knife should go well with the masked off ti lines.

And korbiaka, I read somewhere that oil or WD-40 somehow makes patterns or colors when applied to TI and other metals before heating ?
I could be wrong ???

Thanks guys, I have a blast doing these.

GH- I do recall hearing that now that you mention it. I have to be sure to avoid making skin to ti contact after i remove the ti's finish. If oil from finger prints are left on the refinished ti and I hit it with the torch, those prints are there to stay. I'm sure it would be the same with wd-40.
