BladeSports International- US National Championships
The US National Championships for the 2010-2011 season are going to be held at the Ozark Folk Center, in Mountain View, AR on May 14, 2011.
Spyderco has again donated some impressive knives as prizes to the top 8 winners. You guys Rock!
Donavon Philips, sponsored by Spyderco, goes into the competition as the season points leader. I (also Sponsored by Spyderco) am going in to the competition as the third overall points leader.
The competition will be spread out through the day and consist of three separate events. A double elimination seeded 2x4 derby. A "light" cutting coarse event, and a final coarse cut. Each event will be worth points dependent on the finishing results. The 1st place winner will get the most points.
The 2x4 derby consists of two competitors cutting a 2x4 (on either end) at the same time, The first to get through the 2x4 wins that round.
The "light" cutting coarse event will be like a standard cutting coarse event, except it will consist of non-chopping challenges, where delicate movements, accuracy and speed will win the day.
The Final Coarse Event the final cutting coarse will be the standard cutting coarse. It will begin and end on the 2x4 chop. Balancing delicate cuts and heavy chops, every cutter will be challenged to do their best.
The top 10 points winners of the day will be invited to attend the BladeSports World Championship at Blade Show in Atlanta. There they will be joined by competitors from the Netherlands and the UK on June 11, 2011.
Hope to see some of you at at least one of these events!

Since the light cutting is separated from the chopping do you have to use the same knife?
If not it will be fascinating to see the design changes.

Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

Each competitor may use a different knife for each event, or may resharpen before each event.Sequimite wrote:Since the light cutting is separated from the chopping do you have to use the same knife?

You are just stuck on the "pink" thing, aren't you!Donut wrote:Best of luck Jose!
Did they make you a pink Spyderco logo shirt yet?
Wow, back to the drawing board with very little time before the event.Jose Diaz wrote:Each competitor may use a different knife for each event, or may resharpen before each event.
I'm sure you don't want to tip your own hand as everyone is scrambling to create an optimized knife for the "light" event. I wonder how many will go to a recurved blade.

I will always be the "Man in pink" in my heart, but there are times to wear pink, and there are times to wear Spyderco red.Donut wrote:I thought you were the man in pink! Are you trying to change your identity?
:p
Thanks a ton for your remembering my humble beginnings in the cutting competition world. Memories of wearing that hot pink shirt, surrounded by all that camouflage, black and tan, just makes me smile!

I don't know who does the typing, but going from spelling challenge correctly in one sentence to chalanges in the next sentence... Maybe it's just that they hit the limit of what spell check couldn't handle.
I didn't get to read through the whole thing, I will make time to.
