You must have used one stronger than Roman's. I used to use the little ones. You need to do light strokes anyway so a weak band would serve to check your pressure on the stones.marlinspike wrote:When I tried that, the tension of the rubber band (and I wasn't even using a very strong one) broke the base.
Will Spyderco ever update the Sharpmaker?

Cannot imagine how this can happen, I use really wide band and wrap around few times, unless base had a crack. I have couple extras and can mail you the same, what I am using, if you want.marlinspike wrote:When I tried that, the tension of the rubber band (and I wasn't even using a very strong one) broke the base.

I should explain: it didn't actually crack the base. It broke the plastic within the slots of the rods on one of the rods, causing that rod to be pulled much more upright that the other (and than would be possible on a perfect condition base) by the rubber band.bh49 wrote:Cannot imagine how this can happen, I use really wide band and wrap around few times, unless base had a crack.
