Would you fellas consider the navaja a self defense capable folder? I know its rather short and smooth but i tend to not buy any knives that don't have a potential defense role- call me crazy

tacticooledc - Ed's designs are highly regarded for SD purposes by most. I can't think of a full-sized folder he has made with :spyder: that has not gotten very positive feedback on this. Also, if you read about the history of the carraca style navaja (which is what this is derived from) it has a history that is closely entwined with human-combative applications. Historically, it has a similar history in Spain as the stiletto has in Italy.

I agree with DF --- in that ALL of the :spyder: that I have of Ed's are good for SD.

The Navaja is -- IMHO -- fairly light , very well balenced , has jimping where you need it , a killer point , and "gripy" handle slabs etc.

The only thing I see that I'll do to it for carrying as a SD knife is round off the front leading edges of the "hump" so as to get less drag in a hard thrust for penetration.

One of my favorite designs, aesthetically, from Spyderco this year. I hope to get my hands on one soon.
