how do your pants deal with clips and g-10?

my pants have suffered a bit from a BM 525 so i loosened the clip a bit and now it's fine. my delica doesn't give me the same problem. Just wondering - how do you deal with g-10? do you sand it or let it eat pants?

I take off the cilp on the the knives that have the g10 that is rough and lightly sand it down with 1000 grit sandpaper, (where the clip and g10 contact).

All of my G10 folders ride in the pocket. Haven't seen any problems because I don't clip them (and I wear a suit everday so I don't really want to advertise). The only spydies I pocket clip (as opposed to IWB carry which I most often use) are the ones with the wire clip..

Some of my bigger knives I also tend to clip to my back right hand pocket. Works fine when sitting and can be deployed just as easy.

I wear Dickies during the work week and they don't show any wear weather it's g10 or the aggressive Ti in my avatar. Jeans are another story, I just let them get worn.

I also wear Dickies and they seem pretty durable. But aside from that, in my experience, the G-10 itself becomes less aggressive over time, not smooth or slick but it just loses that very grippy bite that it has when it is new.

My work attire is a suit, so I pretty much refuse to buy G10. There are a few knives that I had to have that were in G10 that I bought, but they see little carry.

My G10 knives have eaten holes in my thick cotton 5.11 range pants !!! LOL, my wife is embarrassed by me because sometimes she notices through the eaten up hole she can see part of my butt cheeks underneath LOL :p it's only a small hole in the pants, but really I should only use micarta or FRN knives to avoid this issue. However, for range duties my G10 Millies or Para seem to be more suitable candidates for carrying.

They bloody hurt though if you go prone and end up crushing your hip bone on the knife !

G10 is fine, its the frn bi directional textureing that eats my pockets up.

If we're talking jeans, the frayed outline and shredded pocket lip adds character. In my uniform pants theres enough room in the pocket that they don't get damaged. As stated above, loosening the clip will usually help a lot if you're having issues.

Here's what most of my jeans look like (or worse)

Image

I've also worn Dickies a lot...that fabric is both tough and thin enough that i haven't had any serious wear like on denim. That particular pair of jeans is much worse now but still holding on strong.

Just think...there are people who pay big money for those designer jeans at the mall...we get our character for free :D

I let things wear naturally... G10 looses it's grit quickly in my experience, clips loosen gradually too. FWIW only my denim jeans get holes worn through from my Spydies, but that's no biggie for me as I generally destroy jeans very quickly. I've never had the problem with canvas, duck or dickies pants.

Its what clips do. They all have issues no matter which you chose really. The only clips I ever used that never really ate up pockets over time were the original integral clips made of the same FRN handle material as the knives. I've owned Spyderco's and Cold Steel knives both done this way and although once these clips went bad by getting caught on something to flare them out they were easily ruined, I found them to be very gentle on pockets if you could keep them healthy. They didn't have much retention to the pocket though and I did lose one once probably due to that. Otherwise I think its kind of a trade off for clips. Some slide on easy and are gentle but one ding to the clip that causes a burr or a ding with a rough spot and the next thing you know its scratching up the pocket rim little by little over time. Add a Wave feature and you have a real pocket eater on your hands! :D

Now you know why I buy 3 buck pants at good will!
