Sage

Hello ,
I am new to the Spyderco Forum and I'm very happy to be here. Recently I have been eye-balling the Sage 1 and Sage 3. I have the Sage 2 (which everyone loves) and I like it but the Sage 1 and Sage 3 seem to attract me more right now. I love the carbon fiber of the Sage 1 but I also love the Bolt Action lock of the Sage 3. They both look great to me. Just looking to hear everyone else's opinions on the Sage knives (esp. 1 & 3).

Welcome to the forum. Lots of nice people and everything SPYDERCO.

I recommend the very popular Sage 1 for your collection. You'll love it. :D

Thanks for the welcome. Though I will inevitably own all of the Sage series knives , the Sage 1 will most likely be my next purchase. I have never owned a liner lock before so this will be my first. Liner locks seem to be very popular so they must lock up nice and solid (I hope). I have many frame locks and Benchmade Axis locks. But I think it's time I own a liner lock and what better knife to get than a Spyderco Sage 1 ?!?! The Sage 3 (with it's bolt action lock) is still very appealing as well.

When you have a Sage2, you don't need a Sage1 as they are dimensionally functionally identical. I would try something different like a Sage3 instead.

I disagree. You still need a Sage I. The carbon fiber is amazing and it's one of my favorite knives. Sure it's similar in dimension to the Ti version, but there's nothing wrong with owning both!

I definitely want to own ALL of the Sage Series knives. I like my Sage 2 but not as much as everyone else seems to. I'm more interested in the Sage 1's carbon fiber and the Sage 3's bolt action lock. I also like the Manix 2 but it's a bit big and heavy for EDC (IPO). I wish Spyderco would make more knives that have that sweet ball bearing lock. Anyway , the Sage Series are the perfect size for EDC.

I owned both the Sage 1 and 2 recently, and decided to sell one. I kept the Sage 1, which was somewhat surprising, as I expected to keep the 2. The CF and liner lock on the 1 are fantastic. Plus, I prefer the darker wire clip.

I'm confident that you will be very happy with the CF scales on the Sage 1. It's one of the unique CF textures not easily found in any other brand. Since you're a fan of frame locks, a liner lock will be second nature.

The liner lock looks simple to execute on the surface but it's a strong, self adjusting lock requiring precise design and manufacture. And Spyderco does great liner locks. I doubt you will find any negatives about the Sage 1. It's one of my personal favorites.

:spyder: Definitely purchase the SAGE1 . . . . The build of this SPIDIE is very professional precise . . . . It is PERFECT, the way it functions, the feel of the SPIDIE's CF scales, the blade, the looks . . . . Do not skip it . . . . It is a SPIDIE for both EDC and "dressed up" situations . . . . I LOVE SAGE1 . . . . ;) :spyder:

Wow , so much positive feedback about the Sage 1. I can't wait to get it. I love the look of the CF along with the full stainless steel liners (and liner lock). And S30V is one of my favorite steels.

i have the sage 2 and love it. probubly not gonna get a sage 1 now, i already have a cf in my GB. the look of the sage 3 in blue is a turn off, as is another lock like the manix 2 thats a pita to operate. thats the main reason i dont get a 3 really, tyvm manix. i could understand a lock like that on a heavy duty folder. i know the sage is a showcase for lock designers. even so its just not my cup o tea .

Love my Sage CF. I think that this knife has the best ergonomics. Great grip, perfect size for EDC (even though I prefer bigger knives: Police, Millie), simply perfect. Highly recommend to go with CF on this one.
BTW, welcome to the forum, I'm new here also, and I love this place.

I understand about the blue G10 on the Sage 3 being a bit of a turn-off. That's the only real gripe I have with it. I like bolt-action style locks (I love the ball bearing lock on the Manix 2 and I'm a fan of the BM Axis). I also like the full back spacer on the Sage 3 as well. Gives it a neat and solid look. If only the G10 was available in black or gray. I will definitely own the Sage 3 but right now I'm really leaning toward the Sage 1.

I've owned all 3 sages and I ended up trading away all 3. The only one I reacquired is the sage 1 which will be here in a day or two. Just something special about the cf and smooth deployment and tight lockup.

I'm glad to hear you say that. Although I like the Sage 2 , it just doesn't "wow" me. But that Sage 1 looks awesome. I have never owned a liner lock before for fear that they may not lock up so solid. But after reading countless good reviews of the Sage 1 I am definitely ready for my first liner lock. The Sage 1 appears to lock up rock-solid and it's liner lock seems to be very strong. Would you agree ? I can't wait to get that Sage 1.

Sage 1, it spends a heck of a lot of time in my pocket. Great all around knife. I have the Sage 2 also, but as far as feel, i prefer the Sage 1. As above, i have a backup of the Sage1 just love that knife.

The lockup on it is absolutely rock solid and the liner lock is sturdy.

Awesome !!! I was hoping that Spyderco would make a strong liner lock and it looks like they definitely do ( Spyderco always makes super tough blades and super strong locking mechanisms. I should have known.) This will also be my first knife to have a CF handle. It looks sick ! And from what I have read CF is very light yet super strong. Add that to full-length stainless steel liners and a beautiful CPM-S30V blade and I am sold !!!
