Adopted a Spydie like a shelter dog

Today, I got a call from a relative who's deep in the auction scene. Told me they were in front of a table of unpriced knives and tools, asked me if I wanted anything. I told him to bid on a Leatherman Wave so I could have a back-up, and then thought for a second...
"Hey...Do any of them have a hole in the blade?"
"Yeah, one does...Says 'C-L-I-P-I-T..."
Do note, I'm a broke college student who splurged on a Delica months back. However, exams cramming has me pretty down. I tell him to put down thirty and no more for whatever it is, as it seemed full-size.

Hours later, I'm handed two things. One...a mint condition, never used, first-generation Leatherman Wave that hasn't been made in years and is in very high demand for picky users. Found it for $90 online, we paid $12. And next to it, a combo-edge Endura 3, little worn on the tip, rough to open, bit dull, but still looking fine without any knicks or scratches. It sold without any other bids, $3. That's about a $150 internet shopping spree, for $15 at a no-name auction on a Sunday.

This knife must have a heck of a story behind it...This is Illinois and a college town so it's a bit too scary to carry in my EDC, but God knows I oiled it and sharpened it until it was brand new again. No idea how old it is, but it uses ATS-55, still clicks and cuts like the day it was made. Some one must have lost this for the price to be that low, or worse this was an estate sale piece, glad I could rescue it accidentally and give it a good home.

Nice!

Living in Illinois all my life, I've never been told to put my knife away and never been told but an officer to let him/her see my knife. I don't know what Campus your on but out of site, out of mind is a good option. During deer hunting season, I carry a 4 1/2 fixed blade open on the U Of I campus and didn't even get looked at. I wasn't even in hunting gear.

Have fun with your purchase.

Congrats on the great score. I wish I had the same auctions in my neck of the woods. Use the Endura well. :)

Very good for you! Both of them. The original Wave is what I use at work, and the screwdrivers on it are way better than the stupid bit drivers on the new ones, even if you can throw a Robertson in there. I wish I had another of those - I carry a Charge everywhere else. Good finds and great price - I'm happy for you. :)

- best wishes, Jazz.
