Does a Bug really come in handy?

#1

Post by spydietingle »

I'm thinking about purchasing a bug for my keys. How often do people actually use a Bug/Ladybug and in what situations? Granted, it's not an expensive knife and would barely change the price of an order that I place but I can't justify wasting a few dollars for no reason.

Thanks,
James

I hardly use mine but then again I carry a UKPK in my pocket most of the time. But, I have used it to open a packet or cut some tape in situations when the UKPK wouldn't be EDCable and my girlfriend has used her's quite a lot for similar things and she really loves it :)
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

If you don't have a knife the bug is great. They are very sharp and almost disposable if need be. I've even cut cardboard and zip ties. People friendly too.

I never put knives on keychains tho.

They can be quite useful. I would go with the ladybug over the bug as I find it fits my hand better. You would be amazed at the versatility these knives provide.

I have a H1 PE Ladybug on my keychain and it absolutely comes in handy.

I have one on my key chain, I use it to open mail or cut anything around other people. You can open it in a crowded room and nobody will even know.

Its definitely usable and comes very sharp, but the Honeybee is a bit more practical.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

While the Bug won't peel an apple, or cut a sandwich in half, and is pretty much useless for SD, yes, it can come in handy. It will cut a loose thread, help you clean under your fingernails, remove the price tag from a new cap, cut a coupon out of a supermarket circular, open a bag of chips, and do a hundred other mundane but essential things.

If I didn't already have a VG-10 SE Ladybug, I would order the H1 SE Ladybug. H1 is supposed to have outstanding edge retention on serrated edge knives. On the other hand, since I don't use my Ladybug that often, the edge lasts a long time anyway.

SE is particularly nice for a small blade because it increases the effective length of the cutting edge.

I have one on my keys and I can honestly say I dont use it much but on the few occasions I needed it, it was completely worth having on my keychain. Besides its so small I dont even notice it in my keys.

I usually always have either my grasshopper or byrd finch (same size as ladybug) in my pocket... I don't like keeping them on my keys either... But I find myself using my little knives a lot... The finch was def worth the 10 bucks I spent on it
